Didier Drogba is set to be handed a new contract by Chelsea.
The 33 year old Ivory Coast international was said to be ready to leave this summer after the £50million club record signing of Fernando Torres.
However a Blues insider told The Sun: “As soon as the new coach has been appointed one of the first things that will happen is that Didier signs a new extended deal.
“There’s no way the club want him to leave – he’s one of the best strikers in the world.”
Torres’ dismal form – just one goal in 12 games – means the Ivory Coast star, 33, is indispensable.
The insider added: “Can you imagine the outcry if Didier was sold and Torres continues to struggle? The decision’s been made – it’s better to keep both.”
