Arsenal vs Marseille Highlights Champions League - 1 November 2011

ARSENAL VS MARSIELLE - UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

ARSENAL VS MARSEILLE:

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Date: 1 November 2011
In the big match in the UEFA Champions League today we will have Asenal taking on Marseille side who will be hunting for the win at Emirates which seening Arsenal as playing some of the best football in country in the past month or so. Their performences has improved alot and they are winning games with ease and they will be very confident when they take on Marseille as they are coming into this match on the back of one of the biggest win agains their local rivals chelsea.

Arsenal are a team who tend to play better football, when they are given space and time and with their top players finding form just at the right time they are now one dangerous side as they keep on attacking all the time and that makes other team less effective on the other side of the pitch.

With the likes of Van Persie and Theo Walcot are in the form of their life and if they can keep the good run of form going it will be interesting to see how this match goes about. Marseille on the other hand are struggling in the league and also they lost against ARsean couple of weeks ago and they will be hoping to avoid such thing this time around.

The agent of Olympique Marseille playmaker Mathieu Valbuena has revealed that there is interest from Spanish giants Barcelona and Premier League side Manchester United.

The 26 year old French international is under consideration at United as manager Sir Alex Ferguson seeks a replacement for Paul Scholes.

“There are 12 matches left and now is not the time to discuss the future of Mathieu,” said Christophe Hutteau.

He added : “It would be a total disrespect to Olympique de Marseille and the rest of his teammates.”

He ended by saying : “Mathieu has much affection for l’OM, though clearly to be linked to clubs like Barcelona or Manchester United is very promising.”

Champions League preview - Manchester United v Marseille

Gavin Beech thinks Man United will comfortably qualify against Marseille tonight – see his best betting tips here…

Last 16, second leg, kick-off: 19:45 (BST)

Manchester United (0) v Marseille (0)

Sir Alex Ferguson is expecting a tense night at Old Trafford as his Manchester United team seek to defeat Marseille and reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the fifth successive season.

The sides shared a goalless draw three weeks ago in France and the United boss is only too aware of the dangers of conceding an away goal on the counter-attack.

"European games are always nervy, but it's nice to have that bit of apprehension ahead of big ties like this," he said. "We're up against a very experienced, powerful Marseille team who'll want to play well. We've had them watched twice away from home against Monaco and Rennes and they showed the qualities we expect to see again tomorrow.

"Marseille will try and hit us on the break, but there are lots of ways of counterattacking in the modern game. It's my first time up against Didier so I've not got enough knowledge of him to say how he'll approach the game.

The United manager has received a bonus with the quicker-than-expected return to fitness of Nani.

"There's a good chance Nani will be involved tomorrow, as he trained on Sunday also," added Ferguson. "Michael Carrick did too, which is also positive news for us. Both should be involved tomorrow night. It was a fantastic bonus to get 45 minutes from [Antonio] Valencia [in the 2-0 FA Cup win against Arsenal], since he's been out for so long. The question is whether to start him or do what we did on Saturday and use him from the bench, but it's a nice selection dilemma for me."

Nemanja Vidic missed training due to a knock sustained at the weekend but is expected to be fit. Rio Ferdinand, Park Ji-Sung, Michael Owen and Anderson are all sidelined.

Marseille coach Didier Deschamps acknowledged that the omens weren't great for his side.

"If you look at the stats then it looks a difficult task," he said. "Manchester United have not been beaten at home for [24] games and have only conceded one goal in seven Champions League matches this season.

"Though it's three or four years since Manchester United last won this trophy, thanks to their status they're always among four or five teams that are favourites to win at the start of every season. On paper you'd expect them to qualify but we've got every chance as well – football's not played on paper.

Deschamps was quick to identify the threat posed by the fit-again Nani.

"Nani did well in the first leg, he created one or two problems for us," said the Marseille coach. "What I like about him is that he speeds the game up and every attack involving Nani is fast, but equally the likes of Rooney, Chicharito and Giggs can all create problems for us tomorrow. We're only likely to get around three or four chances during the whole game so we'll have to be very precise in our finishing.

"Having watched the game against Arsenal first hand, I'm not sure what tactics Sir Alex will play, but we'll do our best to attack them while keeping things tight at the back and trying not to give anything away."

Mathieu Valbuenashould be available, along with André-Pierre Gignac, who was taken off towards the end of Friday's league match but has been included in the travelling party.

Watch: Manchester United 2 - 1 Marseille

Just a quick summary tonight - I have a politics essay to finish!

Manchester United played a solid, strong game against a difficult to beat, well rehearsed Marseille side. A Chicharito double pulled United through this one, with his fantastic ability to find space in the box proving vital at the pivotal times in the game to kill off any possible momentum the French side could gain.

The win however did come with its negatives. Both John O'Shea and Rafael had to be substituted due to hamstring injuries. O'Shea started and was replaced by Rafael because of a hamstring injury, but well into the second half, Rafael had pulled up holding his hamstring, and was substituted with his twin bother replacing him.

Marseille will be bitterly disappointed with themselves after creating some wonderful opportunities to score, with Gignac and Diawara missing glorious chances early on. Gignac was played through with a skillful ball over the United defence leaving the French hit man one on one with van der sar. He attempted some sort of lob or high placement as the ball bounced and was hit wildly over the bar. Then, Diawara saw a cross fly right on his head. With no defenders marking him, his free header went woefully wide, allowing United fans to breath a sigh of relief.

A late Wes Brown goal led to some more buttock clenching, nail biting times for United fans as Marseille pushed forward for that crucial goal to win the tie. They searched, but couldn't find that goal, and leave the competition at Old Trafford, knowing that they had their chances and wasted them.

One more thing: Wayne Rooney had a great game. His cross field, attacking long balls were masterful which Paul Scholes often achieves with apparent ease. He created the first goal both with the first ball to the wing, and his continued determined run into the box and eventually crossed to Chicharito who claimed an easy tap in. Impressed with the two strikers tonight. What must Berbatov be thinking?

Manchester United vs Marseille 2nd Leg Live Stream Online - 15 March 2011

In what will be a huge match against Marseille we will have Manchester United taking on them at Old Trafford on 15 March 2011. The first leg was 0-0 and Marseille have a very good chance of making it to the next level when they take on United and get themselv a berth in the next round. Manchester United are playing some good football in the Champions League over the period of last two years and it will be interesting to see how they go about this match as they are favourites to go through but this match wont be easy as any goal from Marseille would put huge pressure on United.

They are coming into this match on the back of 3 matches against their tradional rivals including, Chelsea and Liverpool against them the lost, while they managed to get a win against Arsenal in the FA Cup Quarter Final and get themselve a meeting with Manchester City in the Semifinal.

Marseille on the other hand are a very physical side and they post threat in the air with some very good forwards the have and they will give United a good run for their money. Although I can see United winning this match against Marseille and getting into the Quarter Finals of the Champions League.
