David Beckham & Ashley Young In Agreement

Manchester United's legendary former right midfielder David Beckham and the clubs new £16 million signing Ashley Young are in agreement; the team at Old Trafford are the best team in Manchester, with the greatest history.

David Beckham, currently at LA Galaxy, spoke about his old clubs rivals and how they have been growing over the past few years into a team who will begin to challenge United. Of course, he acknowledged the progress they have made, and said that although they may be a threat next season and in years to come, they will never "be" Manchester United.

The 26 year-old had many happy years at United, winning six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and two FA Cups in 399 appearances. He never wanted to leave the club that had supported him through the good times and bad times in his career, and who brought him so much success, and he clearly still hold the club dear to his heart. He said of City:

"They're bringing good players in, they've got strong people with a lot of money behind them, so they're going to improve."

"But they'll never be Manchester United. They might be a threat this season but United have got the history, the silverware over the last 20 years. There's only one team in Manchester but City I'm sure will be a team to look at going forward."
Likewise, United's new signing Ashley Young is equally enthusiastic about the club, and claims it was a "no-brainer" when he heard of their interest in him. He was not in a position to turn down one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the former Aston Villa winger is now looking forward to adding to United's marvellous history:

"There was never any doubt once I knew United were interested. When one of the biggest clubs in the world comes after you, whether to sign for them or not is a no-brainer. I was delighted to hear about their interest. I just wanted to get my signature on the paper."

"I have confidence in my own ability. I always said I wanted to play at the highest level. Manchester United is that. This move gives me the opportunity to play in the Champions League and go for a 20th title. That just says it all."

"The history of the club is fantastic and I am delighted to be part of it."

Manchester United Agree £17.8 Million Deal For David De Gea

Interesting news are out claiming that Premier League giants Manchester United are wrapping up a deal for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea.

The Daily Mail has reported that the Red Devils have agreed a £17.8million deal for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper De Gea.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had identified the 20-year-old as the replacement for Edwin van der Sar and the clubs have now reached an agreement which will see De Gea sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

The Spanish goalkeeper narrowly missed out on a place in Spain’s World Cup squad last summer but is considered the long-term replacement for current No 1 Iker Casillas.

United are aware that paying so much for such a young player is a gamble but are convinced by the 6ft 3in star’s quality and have chosen him ahead of Schalke’s Manuel Neuer, Inter Milan’s Julio Cesar and Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg.

However, speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, Atletico’s chief executive Angel Gil said: “Mendes is in England, but it is for nothing related to De Gea. He doesn’t have any power from Atletico to negotiate for the player.

David Beckham Happy To Play In Central Midfield For LA Galaxy

David Beckham has been deployed into central midfield on the weekend by LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena and both parties were extremely happy with the move.

Beckham has made his mark as a right-sided midfielder throughout his career but Arena thought it would be a good idea to throw him into the centre of the pitch for Saturday’s clash with Philadelphia Union.

The move paid off as Beckham produced his best performance for the Galaxy in a while as the team saluted 1-0.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star said that he enjoyed the move into the role as it reminded him of some of his past playing days.

“Bruce just said to me, ‘Do you want to try something different?’” Beckham said.

“We did and I think it worked well. We kept the ball well, we passed the ball around well and we created chances.

“I’ve played that position a number of times before, whether it be for Man. United, Real Madrid and England,” he said.

“I know that I can play that position.”

And Arena admitted that the move worked very well for the team.

“David played well,” he said. “We’re getting him back in the kind of form he needs to be in, in terms of his fitness. We played him centrally and I think he did a good job.

“He helps our passing and I was pretty impressed with his effort [Saturday], much improved from the first three games.”

David De Gea Or Maarten Stekelenburg?

Manchester United is currently on the hunt to find a replacement for the retiring Edwin van der Sar. Many big name goalkeepers have been linked with the Red Devils but only two names stand out. Atletico Madrid’s David de Gea and Ajax’s Maarten Stekelenburg.

However finding a goalkeeper to replace an influential one is never easy and Manchester United have experienced this before when the great Peter Schmeichel retired in 1999.

At the moment De Gea and Stekelenburg are in the running to replace Van Der Sar but who do you think Manchester United should sign? Lets take a brief look at these two goalkeepers.

David De Gea – Atletico Madrid

David De Gea is a 20 year old Spanish goalkeeper and is 6ft 3in in height. He has played a total of 46 games for Atletico Madrid and has established himself as the number one goalkeeper at the club.

De Gea has never represented his home nation, Spain but has played for the U-17, U-19, U-20 and the U-21 squad. Will he be drafted into the senior squad anytime soon? With established goalkeepers such as Casillas, Valdes and Reina, it will be a miracle if De Gea manages to break into the Spanish squad.

Maarten Stekelenburg – Ajax

Maarten Stekelenburg is a 28 year old goalkeeper and is 6ft 6in in height. He is definitely taller and more experienced than David de Gea. He has played a total of 186 for Ajax since 2001 and has won numerous Dutch titles with Ajax.

Stekelenburg also has the advantage of being the number one choice for the senior Dutch side making his debut in 2003 and has 39 caps to his name.

Who Should Manchester United sign? Vote now and let us know what you think. Also feel free to leave your comments below. Cheers!

Chelsea defender David Luiz is hoping that Santos star Neymar will join him at Stamford Bridge.

It is said that Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is desperate to sign the 19 year old Brazilian international after failing to tempt Santos into a deal at the start of the season.

And Luiz said: “Neymar is going to be one of the best players in the world and I would love it if he came to join me at Chelsea. I’m very happy to be at one of the best teams in the world and everything has been very positive.

“Chelsea are fighting for the Premier League and Champions League and I am sure that I’ll become a better player.

“For Neymar it would be the same.”

Fellow Brazilians Alex and Ramires are already at Stamford Bridge.

And a deal is in place for 17-year-old Sao Paolo winger Lucas Piazon.

Video: Manchester United Target David de Gea

David de Gea Goalkeeper David de Gea of Atletico Madrid applauds the crowd during the Europea League match between Atletico Madrid and Aris Thessaloniki at the Vicente Calderon Stadium on December 1, 2010 in Madrid, Spain.Manchester United will buy a goalkeeper in the summer, that much is clear. Who it will be is the question, but if we are to believe reports from Spain and other sources, United have had a bid accepted for the 20 year old Spaniard, David de Gea.

He has been nicknamed by his Athletico Madrid team mates as "van der gea" due to his resemblance to the current, and soon to retire Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der sar. He is tall, agile, commanding and holds the invaluable quality of being able to keep calm under pressure. It is these sorts of qualities that Sir Alex Ferguson desires to replace his current number 1 and avoid the repetition of the last goalkeeping 'crisis' when Peter Schmeichel left United.

The United manager would also be hopeful to avoid the situation that Arsenal have suffered over the past five years - lacking a commanding, regular, consistent goalkeeper. Arsenal have recently received good news on this front, with another United target Maarten Stekelenburg being quoted as saying: "If an offer from Arsenal arrives, I will leave."

So with David de Gea being reported as United's top target, it is time to have a look at what United fans should expect from him. 29 games this season has seen him keep 9 clean sheets while saving a total of 121 shots. Compared to van der sar, his statistics are not all to bad. The United goalkeeper has played 28, kept 12 clean sheets and made a total of 67 saves. I suggest the statistics are heavily effected by the quality of the defences, but they are interesting nevertheless. Watch highlights of De Gea below:
