Gervinho Tells RVP to Stay with Arsenal

Arsenal "need" Robin van Persie to stay at the club. That is the view of summer signing Gervinho, and most probably the entire Arsenal fan-base, who have witnessed the Dutch striker slam in 10 crucial goals in just 13 appearances this season.

The 28 year-old scored the two goals which won Arsenal's game against Stoke on Sunday after coming on as a substitute to add to Gervinho's early goal, and the captain has had some very kind words said about him by his fellow goalscorer. Gervinho said:

"We always need our best players so a player like Robin, frankly, we need him to stay longer at the Club. It would give me pleasure if he stayed because I’ve just arrived and I would like him to stay so I can play with him a while longer."

"He’s formidable and the team needs him. You always have to have leaders in the group and he’s one of the players who drags the team forward. He’s the captain and his role is to galvanise the group and he assumes the responsibility."

"He is good for us psychologically. He’s among the most experienced players on the pitch and when he enters the game he puts the opposition’s defence under pressure and that helps our game."
Van Persie's contract with Arsenal expires in 2012, and he has given no clear indication that he will sign an extension. The Netherlands international has repeatedly said that he is committed to the club, reiterating the long period of time he has already spent in London, however it is concerning that he has told the club to wait for him to make the vital decision.

Gervinho close to Arsenal switch

Gervinho

Lille striker Gervinho claims that his move to Arsenal is imminent has ''only a few details left to sort out'', and that is moving to the Gunners to win trophies.

The Ivory Coast international, has been linked with a switch to London since winning the French league with Lille last season.

"I chose Arsenal because it's a young group within which I will be able to integrate easily," Gervinho told The Sun. "I could develop more over there. There's only a few details left to sort out."

Asked if it was a risk swapping first-team football at Lille for a place in a squad with more competition for places, the forward replied: "A risk? Not at all. I'm going to Arsenal to play. The best risk to take is to look to score goals and to play a lot.

"In football you have to take risks if you want to win. I'm going to Arsenal to win."

Arsenal's initial bid of £7 million had reportedly been turned down, but negotiations continue and a move is expected soon.

Speaking to France Football, Gervinho said he was always confident he would be moving to the Emirates Stadium.

"I had no hesitation. None. But in a transfer there's always a period of analysis and negotiations,'' he said. "All sides had to be satisfied so that things could develop smoothly.

"I'm going there to play, not to be on the bench. Arsenal love the game. And I love teams that love the game. The Premier League is a notch above [the rest]. It's maybe the best league in the world. I want to live that sensation."

LILILE PLAYER GERVINHO HEADING TO ATLETICO DE MADRID ?

Ivory Coast winger & French Club LILLE player GERVINHO has not as yet signed his renewal contract offer. This has been interpreted, especially by Spanish Sports press, that the player is seriously considering an apparent offer from Spanish Club ATLETICO DE MADRID.

Spanish League
Gervinho for Lille

The speculated price is around 10M€ & Lille would welcome the injection of cash. The player seems to feel that he is ready to make the jump to Spanish Football & has thus expressed desires with Atletico being in the front seat to gain his services. The forward is powerful, can play in various forward positions & even as a Centre Forward if needed. Stay tuned for developments.

Said this, there is another message not explicitly mentioned. What goes in goes out, therefore could that be Forlan, Aguero...or?

Newcastle United Interested In Signing Lille Striker Gervinho

Graham Carr, Newcastle United’s chief scout has confirmed that the club is interested in signing Lille striker Gervinho.

However, Carr also admitted that the Ivory Coast international’s asking price could be too steep for the Toon.

“I asked Sven (Goran Eriksson) about Gervinho because he had him when he was at the Ivory Coast,” he told the Sunday Sun.

“Sven said that he will probably cost you a lot of money! He is a good player but probably not an out-and-out striker, so it is up to the manager to decide what kind of player he wants.”
