Capello tips England to emulate Germany

Fabio Capello
Fabio Capello is hoping his new-look England team can eventually emulate Germany who impressed at last year's World Cup finals with a young, exciting outfit.

Although Spain left South Africa with the World Cup trophy, Germany attracted plenty of plaudits for a team including youthful talents such as Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira, Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer.

England's team of established players, meanwhile, were criticised for the disappointing showing at the tournament. But Capello is confident a new generation is on its way.

"I hope that people will talk about us like they did about Germany,'' said Capello. "We have got some young players who are really good for the future. These players are improving a lot and playing with confidence.''

Capello cited Ashley Young who has impressed in each of England's last three internationals.

"Last year Ashley Young played nearly always on the left wing and sometimes on the right,'' said Capello. "This year he changed position and improved a lot. Now he is a really important player because the movement between the lines is there.''

Capello, who has come in for criticism since the World Cup failure, rounded on his critics, stating: "Respect for the people is really important.''

Nonetheless, despite his anger at the treatment he has received in the press, the Italian remain happy in his current role.

"It is a really important squad and it will be difficult for me to select the players because the ones I had here were really good,'' he said.

"I don't know what will happen in the future. It is a long way to arrive at Euro 2012 and there are still a lot of points to play for. But at this moment I am relaxed. I like being here and we are in a good position.''

Germany 4-0 Kazakhstan – Match Highlights

Germany extended their lead at the top of Euro 2012 qualifying Group A to move closer to the finals in Poland and the Ukraine next year with a comfortable 4-0 win over Kazakhstan.

Bayern Munich pair Miroslav Klose and Thomas Muller both grabbed a brace in an easy win for Joachim Low’s side in Kaiserslautern.

The win gives Germany an eight-point cushion at the top of their group ahead of their clash with Austria in June while Kazakhstan are still waiting for their first goal, let alone their first point in qualifying.

Low commits to Germany

Joachim LowJoe Kiddle is tipping goals when Bayern Munich host Inter Milan in the Champions League tonight…

Germany coach Joachim Low has signed a contract extension that will see him stay in the role until the 2014 World Cup finals.

The 51-year-old had been linked with the Bayern Munich job which will become vacant when Louis van Gaal leaves the club in the summer.

However, Low has now committed his future to the national team and the German Football Federation (DFB) confirmed he will be in charge for the 2014 World Cup.

The DFB also confirmed that assistant Hansi Flick, goalkeeping coach Andreas Kopke and manager Oliver Bierhoff will stay on until after the finals in Brazil in three years' time.

Low took over from Jurgen Klinsmann in 2006, leading Germany to the runners-up spot at Euro 2008 and to third place at last year's World Cup in South Africa.

Low admitted this week that he wanted to avoid a repeat of last year's situation at the World Cup, when speculation over his future was a 'constant presence'.

"We want to avoid (that) at Euro 2012," he told Bild.

"The co-operation with the DFB (German Football Federation) was good over many years, even if that was one problem, no question.

"We see good prospects for the national team with our young players, the DFB is in agreement with our concept."
