Fernando Torres Set To Be Benched For Man Utd Clash

Reports are out claiming that Fernando Torres will be on the bench for Chelsea’s clash at Manchester United.

The Sun has reported that the former Liverpool striker has been on the fringes of boss Carlo Ancelotti’s plans this week as he tried out a 4-3-3 system using Didier Drogba as the main striker.

Drogba was played wide right against Spurs last weekend, with Torres down the middle, but the experiment didn’t work.

The Spanish international striker, who has scored only once since his £50million January move from Liverpool, had been left out of the previous three games, all of which Chelsea won.

Steven Pienaar To Miss Real Madrid Clash

Steven Pienaar has declared that he will not be available for the first leg of Tottenham’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on Tuesday due to injury.

The South Africa international winger is said to be suffering from a groin problem that first came to light last month.

The former Everton star represented his country during the recent international break, but he revealed that the injury had flared up again, writing on his Twitter account: “Out for the Madrid game. Groin still not right.”

If confirmed by the club’s doctors, the news will come as another blow for Spurs boss Harry Redknapp, who is already sweating on the fitness of defender William Gallas and star winger Gareth Bale.

Lionel Messi To Be Ready For Villarreal Clash

Interesting news are out and Barcelona have allayed injury fears concerning superstar Lionel Messi.

The 23-year-old missed Argentina’s friendly with Costa Rica this week because of a worry over his right groin, but Barcelona are satisfied it is nothing serious and he could yet face Villarreal on Saturday.

“Leo Messi arrived this morning at Barcelona, along with his team-mates (Diego) Milito and (Javier) Mascherano,” read a club statement.

“After completing tests the doctors have ruled out any adductor muscle injury in his right leg.

“The player will continue physio treatment until Saturday and will then be evaluated ahead of the match against Villarreal.”

Barcelona To Lose Lionel Messi For Villarreal Clash

Lionel Messi has been rated as doubtful for Saturday night’s Primera Division game at Villarreal after the Barcelona forward suffered an adductor injury.

Messi, now age 23, suffered the injury in training with his national team and coach Sergio Batista elected not to risk the FIFA Ballon d’Or winner.

Speaking before kick-off at the new Estadio Nacional, Argentinian Football Association president Julio Grondona said: “We just had a chat with the president of the Costa Rican Football Federation and the doctor, and Messi has a minor injury.

“The doctor has reviewed it and sees that it is not as it should be. Obviously, caution must be taken in these cases and, thinking about everything, we must be sure that the player is able to play – and he is not.

“He has a muscle strain and we do not even know if he will get to play Saturday.”

Barcelona confirmed on Tuesday that another forward, Bojan Krkic, is also a doubt for the trip to El Madrigal after straining his ankle while playing for Spain Under-21s on Monday.

Lionel Messi Out Of Costa Rica Clash With Leg Injury

Lionel Messi has been withdrawn from the friendly match against Costa Rica on Tuesday after the Barcelona ace reportedly suffered a leg injury.

Coach Sergio Batista told Argentine media : “I had prepared the team with (Messi) in it. We’re not pressured by Barcelona or anyone…I think that with the scan done on him today, if he played he’d last five minutes,”.

“He suffered a pulled (right leg) muscle and we must look after the player, we can’t take a risk. I’m sorry because I want him in the eleven and also for the crowd.

“We have to respect the timing for the Copa America (in Argentina in July) and for Barcelona,” he added.

Palermo midfielder Javier Pastore stood in for Messi in a team with six changes from the side that drew 1-1 with the United States in New Jersey on Saturday

Arsene Wenger To Consider Jens Lehmann For Blackburn Clash

Reports are out claiming that veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann could be back playing for Arsenal the next time they step out in the Premier League.

It is said that the 41-year old has a chance to be selected by Arsene Wenger when the Gunners take on Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates on April 2.

The French tactician admitted that a player such as Lehmann could be brought in as the Londoners try to get their season back on track after just one win their last six matches in all competitions.

“I’m not going to make a decision on who I will pick for the next game, we have two weeks to think about it,” Wenger said ahead of the international break this weekend.

“In training Jens Lehmann has looked like a guy who has not been involved for a long time but has kept his body fit.

“He has the basic physical fitness but he needs a bit of decision-making and practice in goal.

“Competition exists in every position and when they player is ready or when I judge better than the player who plays, they play.

“If it is goalkeepers or strikers, it is exactly the same.”
