Brad Friedel Joins Tottenham Hotspur On A Free Transfer

Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel has agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.

Friedel, now age 40, was out of contract at Villa Park and has turned down reported interest from his former club Liverpool in order to join Harry Redknapp’s side.

It is expected that he will usurp Tottenham’s established number one Heurelho Gomes after the Brazilian committed a number of errors in the second half of last season.

Harry Redknapp confirmed the news in the club’s official website: “Brad is a top goalkeeper of real quality who has great experience.

“It is good to have three such experienced top goalkeepers at the club in Gomes, Carlo [Cudicini] and now Brad and it means we have competition for places particularly with the number of games we will hopefully face next year both domestically and in Europe as well.”

Confirmation of the deal means Friedel is likely to extend his Premier League record for playing consecutive games, with the tally currently standing at 275.

The American made 114 league appearances for Aston Villa across three seasons at Villa Park.

It is said that Napoli coach Walter Mazzarri is a huge admirer of the Honduran midfielder.

Having qualified for next season’s Champions League, the Italian side are said to be keen to strengthen their squad and have also targeted Sampdoria’s Angelo Palombo to reinforce central midfield.

Arsenal, Tottenham Willing To Pay £26 Million For Radamel Falcao

Sensational transfer news are out and it has been reported that Arsenal and Tottenham are both willing to pay £26 million to sign Porto striker Radamel Falcao.

The 25 year old Colombian international striker scored a record-breaking 17 goals to help Porto win the Europa League this season – surpassing Jurgen Klinsmann’s 15-year-old record of 15 goals in a single campaign.

The striker’s form has attracted plenty of attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Falcao also found the back of the net 16 times in Porto’s victorious league campaign and the Portuguese champions are in contract negotiations with the former River Plate star after admitting that the €30 million (£26 million) release clause in his current deal is too low.

And according to Claudio Mossi, an agent from the Sivori & Asociados group that represents Falcao, both Arsenal and Tottenham are willing to pay the buyout amount.

“England are crazy about Falcao,” Mossi said.

“Among the leading candidates are Arsenal and Tottenham. They are willing to hit the €30 million clause. The figure is not an extraordinary value for them.”

Falcao spoke of his intention to stay at the Estadio do Dragao after scoring the winner in last week’s Europa League final win over Braga.

Falcao also said that he wanted to remain with the Portuguese champions to play Champions League football under young manager Andre Villas-Boas, and Mossi added that staying with Porto is an option.

“He is very happy at Porto,” Mossi said.

“There he can play the Champions next year. The problem is that every day he is linked with other clubs. It is important that he is left alone for a time with his family now to decide.”

Liverpool 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur – Match Highlights

Tottenham seized the advantage in the race for the final Europa League spot as Liverpool’s first match since the appointment of Kenny Dalglish as permanent manager ended in a 2-0 defeat.

But referee Howard Webb could have been accused of having a helping hand in deciding the outcome with a series of questionable decisions which culminated in the award of a very favourable penalty for the visitors’ second.

Rafael van der Vaart’s volley had given Harry Redknapp’s side an early lead only for Liverpool to wrest back control of the game until 11 minutes after the interval when Webb controversially pointed to the spot and Luka Modric converted.

Spurs moved a point ahead of their rivals into fifth place as they inflicted a first home defeat for Dalglish, who signed a three-year contract on Thursday, since he replaced Roy Hodgson in early January.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Blackpool – Match Highlights

Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Blackpool – Match HighlightsView Comments May 8, 2011 [Translate]

Tottenham failed to fully capitalise on a defeat for Manchester City as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Blackpool.

Spurs knew a win could have taken them to within four points of Manchester City in fourth place, but fell behind in farcical circumstances at White Hart Lane. Michael Dawson handballed to concede a penalty in the second half and Heurelho Gomes saved from Charlie Adam, but within 70 seconds the goalkeeper fouled Gary Taylor-Fletcher to concede another spot-kick.

Adam scored his second attempt from 12 yards after 76 minutes and had seemingly put Blackpool on course for a vital three points. However, Jermain Defoe scored with a minute of normal time remaining. The result means Spurs are six points behind City with three games remaining, ahead of the meeting of the two clubs on Tuesday.

Arsenal, Tottenham Chasing Inter Milan Striker Diego Milito

Transfer news are out claiming that Premier League giants Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are going head to head in a £5million race to sign Inter Milan striker Diego Milito.

The 31 year old Argentinian international has bagged 27 goals in 53 appearances for the Nerazzurri, keeping up a fine goalscoring record he started at Racing Club, Real Zaragoza and Genoa.

Now the Italian club’s poor season, plus Milito’s desire to play in the Premier League, have put the North London rivals on red alert.

It is believed that his choice could depend on whether Spurs make it back into the Champions League next season as he is determined to play in Europe’s top competition again after Inter’s failure to defend their crown this campaign.

Arsenal are almost certain to be there again but Spurs’ presence hangs in the balance as they battle Manchester City for fourth spot in the Premier League.

Milito scored twice in Inter’s 2-0 triumph over Bayern Munch in the 2009 final.

Tottenham are expected to part company with Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko this summer, while Arsenal desperately want to pair Robin van Persie with another sharp-shooter to avoid a repeat of lost opportunities this term.
