Man Utd as good as won their 19th Premiership title after defeating their closes rival – Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford.
“It’s a massive step forward,” United’s Ryan Giggs told Sky Sports. “It’s not mathematically over just yet but we’re closing in.”
Javier Hernandez and Nemanja Vidic got goals at Old Trafford, with Frank Lampard scoring for Chelsea, to give United a six-point advantage with two games remaining. Avoiding defeat in either match would guarantee a 12th title since the Premier League was formed in 1992.
The Red Devils can now secure the title with a draw or win in their next game, at Blackburn on May 14. United then hosts Blackpool in its final game.
Giggs said United will “be going for a win” next weekend.
