Hercules have sacked Esteban Vigo following their 4-0 home defeat to Osasuna.
Vigo, 56, led Hercules back into the top division last season for the first time since 1996-97, and in his first away game they stunned champions Barcelona 2-0 at Camp Nou.
However, they have failed to win any of their last six league games and have just 26 points from 29 games this season.
The board's patience finally snapped after Sunday's heavy home drubbing and Vigo's successor will be given the job of moving Hercules off the foot of the table to safety.
Barcelona B manager Luis Enrique, who has already confirmed he will be leaving his post in the summer, and AEK boss Manolo Jimenez are the early contenders to succeed Vigo.
