Mourinho fumes over 'scandal'

Jose Mourinho

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was left fuming after his side went down 2-0 to Barcelona in Wednesday's Champions League semi-final first leg.

The home side were forced to play the final half an hour with 10 men after Pepe was dismissed for a late challenge on Dani Alves, although replays suggested the decision was harsh.

Mourinho was also sent to the stands for remonstrating with referee Wolfgang Stark and was left angered by the decisions of the match official.

"Another miracle with 10 men wasn't possible," said Mourinho.

"Yes, I think we are eliminated. We will go to Camp Nou with everything and to get a result but I can't see it.

"We will be without Pepe and (Sergio) Ramos who didn't do anything and neither did I.

"I just want to know why? Why did Pepe get sent off? I just want someone to explain. Why did it happen?

"If I say what I think my career ends today.

"Sometimes I am a little bit disgusted to live in this world, but this is the world we live in.

"If we go there (Nou Camp) and score a goal, they will kill us again. We have no chance. They have to get to the final and that's that.

"Congratulations to a fantastic football team. But congratulations for all they have as well, it must be difficult to get to get all this power. Where does this power come from?

Scandal of the Bernabeu

Mourinho reminded reporters of Barca's semi-final victory over his former club Chelsea in 2009, the Inter semi-final from last season and now "the scandal of the Bernabeu," suggesting referees were favouring the Catalan outfit.

"This thing happens in each semi-final," he said. "I am here just to ask this question and I hope to get the answer one day.

"Guardiola is a fantastic coach, but he has won one Champions League which I would be ashamed to win after the scandal at Stamford Bridge and this year, if he wins it again, it will be after the scandal at the Bernabeu.

"I hope that one day he will win a clean Champions League, with no incidents behind it.

"Today it's clear that against Barcelona you have no chance. I don't understand why. I don't know if it's the publicity of UNICEF (the club's shirt sponsor), I don't know if it's the friendship of (Spanish football federation president Angel Maria) Villar at UEFA, where he is vice-president, I don't know if it's because they are very nice, but they have got this power. The rest of us have no chance.

"Why couldn't Chelsea reach the final two years ago? It was a miracle that Inter reached the final last year.

"I am here just to ask this question and I hope to get the answer one day."

Pedro’s Dive To Get Álvaro Arbeloa Yellow Carded – Video

Last year i watched Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets fall down and almost won an Oscar against Inter Milan, it got the referee to believe and red carded Thiago Motta who missed playing in the final because of that card, that was a a cruel way to lose your place in the final.

I thought it would not happen again, especially since Barcelona are a really good team with excellent players who DO NOT need to resort to such lowly actions, but how i was wrong!.

In last night’s Champions League semi-final a.k.a El Clasico part three, a certain Pedro decided to emulate his team mate, again in a semi final and yet again against Mourinho’s team. It’s a shame and i hope it don’t happen again from Barcelona.

Liverpool To Launch £5 Million Offer For Joey Barton

Reports are out claiming that Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is set to offer £5 million for Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton.

According to The Daily Mail, Dalglish has long followed the 28-year-old’s progress and, while he recognises such a move would be controversial, he believes Barton’s ability merits serious consideration.

It is believed that Dalglish is keen to return a strong British identity to the squad and sees room for Barton’s feisty style.

The Liverpudlian has not always endeared himself to the Anfield faithful. He was sent off for a lunge at Xabi Alonso on his last visit and clashed with Fernando Torres during Newcastle’s 3-1 home victory over Liverpool last December.

But Dalglish feels Barton could add an edge to his side and help bring the best out of £35m record signing Andy Carroll.

Real Madrid 0-2 Barcelona – Match Highlights

Lionel Messi swooped twice to give Barcelona a 2-0 win in a bad-tempered first leg of their Champions League semi-final against 10-man Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

The World Player of the Year guided the ball home at the near post with 14 minutes remaining to break the deadlock before he reverted from poacher to his usual creative self for the second on 87 minutes, a wonderful individual effort that saw him dance through the Madrid defence and finish past Iker Casillas.

The Argentine’s match-winning brace – his 16th and 17th goals in his last 16 appearances in the competition – gives his side a clear advantage heading into the second leg at the Camp Nou next week.

Madrid will be missing midfielder Pepe for that game after the Portuguese received his marching orders for a studs-up challenge on Dani Alves after just over an hour of play.

Barca also had a man sent off, substitute goalkeeper Jose Pinto, following an unsavoury scuffle as the teams headed down the tunnel at half-time, while Madrid coach Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands for his sarcastic protestations in the aftermath of Pepe’s dismissal.

Fulham 3-0 Bolton Wanderers – Match Highlights

Fulham moved up to ninth after a comfortable 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Craven Cottage continued their unbeaten Premier League home run this year.

A brace from Clint Dempsey and a header from Brede Hangeland gave the Whites the three points in a game they largely dominated, putting them on 42 points and effectively securing Premier League football for an 11th consecutive season.

Bolton, meanwhile, lacked confidence and guile and were comprehensively outplayed. Owen Coyle’s side stay eighth, four points clear of Fulham but nine shy of fifth-placed Tottenham in the Europa League slot.

Victory was all the more important given Fulham’s difficult run-in, which includes trips to Sunderland and Birmingham – who are fighting for their lives – and tough home clashes with Liverpool and Arsenal.

Rio Ferdinand Disgusted With Diving Barcelona Players

Reports are out claiming that Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was disgusted by the diving of Barcelona players last night against Real Madrid.

Daniel Alves’ play-acting resulted in Pepe being sent off, while Pedro was also an embarrassment.

Barcelona’s Pedro fell to the ground clutching his face after a harmless collision with Alvaro Arbeloa in the first half.

Ferdinand tweeted: “This diving is a joke/embarrassing. When Pedro watches that do you think he’ll think ‘What was I doing!?’”

Ferguson revels in United performance

Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was pleased with his side's performance as they cruised past Schalke to move closer to this season's Champions League final.

United were dominant in Germany with Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney both scored in a 2-0 away win.

Giggs, who had missed a couple of fantastic chances, was played in by Rooney and finished well before Rooney added a second only two minutes later.

"Our concentration, intensity and speed of passing was excellent,'' Ferguson said afterwards. "We had less chances in the second half but were more dangerous, when Chicharito scored and it was offside it told the players they could beat the goalkeeper.''

"Juventus in 1999 will always be on the list of great performances away from home in Europe but this certainly ranks as one of them.

"The players have confidence and trust in each other and they are peaking."

Ferguson also suggested the ability to name the same starting 11 that played against Chelsea in the previous round was significant.

"The continuity of selection in these games gives us good experience and work-rate and I have good options with the likes of Nani, Scholes and Anderson. We have selection problems now but that is what we want,'' he added.

The Scot is in the market for a new goalkeeper with Dutch veteran Edwin van der Sar retiring at the end of the season and has been linked with Schalke keeper Manuel Neuer, who performed marvels on the night to keep the score respectable.

"He was fantastic," said Ferguson. "That is one of the best performances I've seen against Manchester United."

The United boss even suggested he could rest key players in the return leg as the fight to win the Premier League takes priority.

"Depending on the result on Sunday [at Arsenal] I could make two or three changes because we play Chelsea the following weekend.

"We are a bit disappointed we didn't take more chances but overall we are delighted with the performance. In the first half especially we had some good chances and we were disappointed at half time not to be in front.''

But Rooney refused to accept that United now have one foot in the final at Wembley, aware that Schalke scored five goals in the San Siro against Inter in the quarter-finals.

"Schalke are a good team and we can't take them lightly. We need to make sure we are professional and fully concentrated,'' he said.

Giggs, who became the oldest player to score in the history of the Champions League, insisted the players were confident they would be able to find a goal despite being constantly denied by Neuer.

"We knew that if we kept creating chances one would go in and hopefully I would get one on my left foot rather than my right,'' he said. "Before the game we would have taken 2-0 but now we are slightly disappointed.''

Arsene Wenger Not Ready To Change His Principles

Arsene Wenger has sensationally declared that he will not change his approach, despite defeat to Bolton Wanderers.

The Arsenal manager conceded their title tilt is over after the loss.

The French tactician told arsenal.com: “If you can convince me that the principles are wrong, then I am ready. But I feel we try to play football the proper way. When you don’t win, your principles are questioned. You always have to take the right distance to see what is right and wrong in what you do. I think if something is wrong in our team, it is not the principle of playing our football.

“I am convinced we are a very good footballing side. We have not been stable enough defensively. The numbers are the numbers, we have conceded six goals this week at a moment where you cannot afford to conceded six goals in three games and win the championship. We were too frail defensively during the season.”

Carlo Ancelotti Confident Chelsea Will Overtake Manchester United

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti is confident that his side can overtake Manchester United at the top of the table having seen first-hand how a comfortable advantage can be thrown away.

The Italian tactician was in charge of Juventus in 2000 when they were overtaken by Lazio despite having held a nine-point advantage with eight games to go.

Chelsea, who had trailed United by 15 points at one stage, have now closed the gap to just six points and, as Chelsea have yet to visit Old Trafford in the league, Ancelotti hopes United will wilt under the pressure.

The former AC Milan boss said : “I lost a title nine points up with eight games to go,”.

“It can happen. It’s not a nice feeling. It was very difficult to think two months ago that we could stay with the lead so for this reason, at this moment, we are happy.”

However there are a lot more games to play with Chelsea hosting Tottenham in Saturday’s late kick-off, and United then head to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Ancelotti said : “If we are able to win against Tottenham, I think we can put more pressure on Manchester United in the game against Arsenal,”.

Should Chelsea win all their remaining games and United suffer two defeats, the title could be decided on goal difference and, with the Blues currently on 37 and United on 39, Ancelotti is eager to ensure his side take their chances.

“It can happen,” he said when asked about the prospect of the teams finishing level on points. “It was important for us to score three goals [against West Ham].”

Inter boss Leonardo brushes off Mourinho return rumours

Leonardo on his way

Inter coach Leonardo has brushed aside speculation that Jose Mourinho could return to the club in the summer.

Real Madrid coach Mourinho has been linked with a return to the San Siro where he won the unprecedented Treble of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League last season.

Inter have struggled since Mourinho's departure to Real Madrid, with Rafael Benitez departing despite winning the Club World Cup in December. New boss Leonardo enjoyed a promising start to his tenure, but last week Inter were knocked out of the Champions League by Schalke, while they they currently sit third in Serie A, eight points adrift of his former club and league leaders Milan.

"I am not worried about these rumours,'' Leonardo said. "I'm not thinking about the future. I live in the present. I don't even think about these things.

"I have an open rapport with the club president (Massimo Moratti). He knows me, knows what I think and the only thing that interests me is to find a solution so that the team wins.''

Leonardo was speaking after Tuesday night's 1-0 win at Roma in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

"It was important to halt the negative run of results," he continued. "It wasn't easy, especially after our Champions League elimination.

"But against Roma we showed maturity and we took an important result - something that is not easy to do in Rome. Now we must continue to win. We still have five league games and the Coppa Italia and we need to remain lucid and calm.''

Thierry Henry Wants To Give 110% To New York Red Bulls

Thierry Henry has admitted that he is feeling no pain in his Achilles for the first time in a while.

The former Arsenal and Barcelona star scored his first MLS goal of the season with a lovely diving header in the 3-0 win over San Jose Earthquakes on the weekend.

The former French international also got through training ahead of tonight’s clash with DC United at Washington’s RFK Stadium.

The New York Red Bulls striker said that he was looking forward to give his all for the Red Bulls in what will be a vital game against a DC side who are also coming off 3-0 win, over Toronto FC.

Henry said : “I’ve been pain-free for the first time this week and the end of the week before. Hopefully I can stay like this and give 110 percent for the team,’’.

And the Frenchman added that patience was the key to New York finally producing a winning score but knows very well that DC will be a difficult test.

“The goals are always going to come if you play the way we played on Saturday, with desire and commitment starting from the front,” he added.

Arsenal, Tottenham Chasing Inter Milan Striker Diego Milito

Transfer news are out claiming that Premier League giants Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are going head to head in a £5million race to sign Inter Milan striker Diego Milito.

The 31 year old Argentinian international has bagged 27 goals in 53 appearances for the Nerazzurri, keeping up a fine goalscoring record he started at Racing Club, Real Zaragoza and Genoa.

Now the Italian club’s poor season, plus Milito’s desire to play in the Premier League, have put the North London rivals on red alert.

It is believed that his choice could depend on whether Spurs make it back into the Champions League next season as he is determined to play in Europe’s top competition again after Inter’s failure to defend their crown this campaign.

Arsenal are almost certain to be there again but Spurs’ presence hangs in the balance as they battle Manchester City for fourth spot in the Premier League.

Milito scored twice in Inter’s 2-0 triumph over Bayern Munch in the 2009 final.

Tottenham are expected to part company with Russian forward Roman Pavlyuchenko this summer, while Arsenal desperately want to pair Robin van Persie with another sharp-shooter to avoid a repeat of lost opportunities this term.

Chelsea 3-1 Birmingham City – Match Highlights

Chelsea 3-1 Birmingham City – Match Highlights[ 1 ] April 21, 2011 [Translate]

Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to leave out Fernando Torres paid off as Florent Malouda and Salomon Kalou fired Chelsea up to second in the Premier League with a 3-1 home win over Birmingham.

The champions beat Birmingham to become Manchester United’s closest challengers, moving to within six points of the leaders and giving themselves a glimmer of hope of retaining their crown.

Once again looking far more comfortable in their tried-and-trusted 4-3-3 formation, Malouda and Kalou scored brilliant first-half goals, and the former struck again before Sebastian Larsson netted a consolation from the penalty spot.

Chelsea therefore capitalised on United’s failure to win at Newcastle yesterday and, with a trip to Old Trafford to come, there is a slim chance they could yet snatch the title.

AC Milan 2-2 Palermo – Match Highlights

AC Milan 2-2 Palermo – Match Highlights[ 0 ] April 21, 2011 [Translate]

Milan’s hopes of a first domestic double suffered a hiccup when they drew 2-2 at home to Palermo in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg.

Milan, six points clear in Serie A, took the lead after four minutes when Zlatan Ibrahimovic turned in a deep Massimo Oddo cross at the far post as the Swede returned in the midst of a three-game league ban.

However, Palermo levelled after a beautifully-crafted goal from Argentina playmaker Javier Pastore on 14 minutes and surged ahead when Uruguayan forward Abel Hernandez scored from a tight angle early in the second period.

Milan substitute Urby Emanuelson grabbed the equaliser by netting a loose ball after good work from Ibrahimovic but the hosts, who had a number of other chances despite fielding a weakened team, will be annoyed to have only drawn.

Benfica 1-3 FC Porto – Match Highlights

Porto scored three goals in 10 minutes to beat Benfica 3-1 in a thrilling Portuguese Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday to book a place in the final on away goals with a 3-3 aggregate score.

Benfica had won the first leg 2-0 away at the Dragao Stadium in February but Wednesday’s result condemned them to a second defeat this month by Porto, who also beat them at the Luz Stadium to clinch the league title.

The first half on Wednesday was a tame affair with only one chance apiece — a shot sent just wide for Benfica by Oscar Cardozo and an effort by Porto’s Colombia striker Radamel Falcao that keeper Julio Cesar blocked.

But the game burst into life in a high-tempo second half when Porto’s Joao Moutinho opened the scoring with a low diagonal drive in the 64th minute.

Burly Brazilian forward Hulk put Porto level on aggregate just seven minutes later, taking advantage a missed clearance by his compatriot Luisao to tap in the second.

Falcao gave holders Porto the away goal advantage in the 74th minute when his shot was deflected in by Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia to wrongfoot Cesar.

Cardozo gave Benfica some hope in the 80th minute by converting a penalty, but Porto held on to secure another memorable triumph at their rivals’ ground.

Porto will meet Vitoria Guimaraes at the final on May 22.

Copa del Rey Final 2011 – Barcelona v Real Madrid

Copa del Rey Final 2011 – Barcelona v Real Madrid[ 0 ] April 20, 2011 [Translate]

Last Saturday, a 5-0 score line was never going to be a realistic possibility right after Mourinho revealed his first-team sheet. The presence of Pepe, Sami Khedira and Xabi Alonso on a three-man defensive midfield absolutely signaled the Special One’s intention on incensing his defensive stability rather than going all out offensively.

You can criticize Mourinho all you want but he was merely doing the right job, which was to prevent another humiliation especially in front of his own set of fans. Fair enough, the Catalans did take control of the ball for a majority of time although the likes of Xavi and Iniesta were constantly shackled by the three-men wall set up in Madrid’s midfield.

The question now is what formation will “The Special One” use today? would you dare to place a bet at sports gambling to the exact formation he will go with? will Real Madrid attack or will they defend.Barcelona’s style of play has been consistent throughout, they always play short passing, ball control, attacking game no matter the opponents.

The added spice today is that for a first time after a long time, the duo will play out the el-clasico in a neutral stadium – The Mestalla (Valencia). it is going to be an exciting game and honestly i hope Mourinho deploys an attacking Real Madrid today, what about you?
