Nicolás Gaitán on his way to Manchester United

Manchester United have, or are in the process of finalising a deal which will see Benfica's 24 year-old attacking midfielder, Nicolás Gaitán playing at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson next season, according to various reports.

The Argentinian play-maker has been strongly linked with United before with the English Champions watching him closely and monitoring his progress, and it seems this summer, Ferguson will make the move to bring him to England.

Gaitán is well known for his rather useful ability of creating goals for his team-mates, and is a hand-full for opposition defenders, assisting an impressive 17 goals so far this season and scoring 4 in 43 appearances.

The fee is said to be in the region of £20 million and will include a pair of young United players heading off to Portugal as well.

In order to avoid paying the full €45million release-clause in Gaitán's Benfica contract, Manchester United will offer their young Italian striker, Federico Macheda, who has spent this season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, and Fabio da Silva.

It is though Macheda may leave United on a permanent deal, and Fabio, one half of the twin full-back pair at United will spend the season out on loan.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that the Brazilian left-back will be sent out on loan next season to give him valuable experience which he hasn't been able to gain this season at United, and the 21 year-old's agent Cassiano Pereira also added: "There is a high possibility that Fabio will go to Benfica. Alex Ferguson has talked with me and Fabio about this possibility and the next two to three weeks we should know our position."
