Manchester United keen on Hazard

Manchester United are interested in the highly rated and much sought after Belgian attacker, Eden Hazard of Lille, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed.

The United manager was speaking to a French radio station when he confirmed his interest in the 21 year-old which first team coach Rene Meulensteen alluded to a few weeks ago.

Meulensteen had said that Ferguson wanted to see Hazard play for himself and described him as a "special talent." It is now clear that Sir Alex was impressed with what he saw, saying:

"I was at the game and watched Hazard, as well as other players. That's part of my job, looking at good players. Hazard is a very good player and has a lot of qualities. He's particularly quick over the first ten yards."
Clubs across Europe have also been quick to praise Hazard and announce an interest in the explosive attacking midfielder, with Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all supposedly interested in the player.

The interest is understandable considering the talent and potential he has shown this season for Lille in the French Ligue 1, scoring an impressive total of 18 goals and assisting 14 in 43 games. This sort of talent will however, come at a hefty price, with fees of up to £40 million being quoted from his club, having accepted that this is his last season in France.

Van Persie Talks - Walcott Finished

Arsenal may not have been able to score on Saturday against Chelsea, but if they were to have hit the back of the net, the source of the goal would have most likely been from a certain Robin van Persie, whose 27 League goals this season places him at the top of the Premier League goalscorers list.

It is that incredible tally of vitally important goals and inspirational form this season which piles added pressure on Arsenal to keep their captain at the club this summer, amidst speculation of several interested clubs, readying huge offers to persuade the Dutchman away from London.

With 12 months left on his Arsenal contract, van Persie is yet to agree an extension on his deal, leaving his future in a fragile position. The last thing Arsene Wenger wants is his best and most important player leaving for a second summer in a row.

Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas left the club last summer, and Wenger will do his utmost to avoid a repetition of such events this time around, saying that the Arsenal strikers' future will be dealt with before the start of the Euro 2012 competition: "Robin’s future will be sorted at the end of the season. Before the Euros."

On the other hand, Arsenal's second highest scorer this season Theo Walcott, is quite certain of his immediate future. He will miss the remainder of the club season with a "serious" hamstring injury and will be out for a minimum of 21 days, meaning he is unlikely to play again for Arsenal, whose season ends at West Brom on the 13th May. Wenger said:

"It looks like a serious hamstring. I think now for him it will be tough to come back before the end of the season."It is usually 21 days [minimum]. He should be OK to play for England."

In the Opening leg of the UEFA Champions League semfinal affair between Chelsea and Barcelona we had a great game as Barcelona took the game to Chelsea but did not had their shooting boots on under the rain in west london. They created a few good chances and missed all of them while Chelsea were more clinical in front of the goal as their only good oppertunity was buried home by fans favourite Didier Drogba who manages to get a goal just before the halftime interval.

After the break Barcelona again started their passing game and waited for the perfect oppertunity while in between Chelsea did had their counter attackes setup and they could have scored another to make it a comfortable night in Camp Nou.

Although it was a very even half where Barcelona created more chances as they went on to miss some sitters as well on the way but eventually it was the home side who took advantage and scored a goal in the injury time of the first half.

Chelsea will be delighted to lead at the break. Sure they're ridden their luck, Sanchez hit the crossbar, Ashley Cole cleared one off the line from Fabregas

Nicolás Gaitán on his way to Manchester United

Manchester United have, or are in the process of finalising a deal which will see Benfica's 24 year-old attacking midfielder, Nicolás Gaitán playing at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson next season, according to various reports.

The Argentinian play-maker has been strongly linked with United before with the English Champions watching him closely and monitoring his progress, and it seems this summer, Ferguson will make the move to bring him to England.

Gaitán is well known for his rather useful ability of creating goals for his team-mates, and is a hand-full for opposition defenders, assisting an impressive 17 goals so far this season and scoring 4 in 43 appearances.

The fee is said to be in the region of £20 million and will include a pair of young United players heading off to Portugal as well.

In order to avoid paying the full €45million release-clause in Gaitán's Benfica contract, Manchester United will offer their young Italian striker, Federico Macheda, who has spent this season on loan at Queens Park Rangers, and Fabio da Silva.

It is though Macheda may leave United on a permanent deal, and Fabio, one half of the twin full-back pair at United will spend the season out on loan.

Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed that the Brazilian left-back will be sent out on loan next season to give him valuable experience which he hasn't been able to gain this season at United, and the 21 year-old's agent Cassiano Pereira also added: "There is a high possibility that Fabio will go to Benfica. Alex Ferguson has talked with me and Fabio about this possibility and the next two to three weeks we should know our position."

Beating Arsenal Was No "Accident"

For the second week in a row, a top four side has underestimated the challenge of Wigan Athletic, and been taken aback by the result of this miscalculation, losing the game and missing out on valuable points. The Latics on the other hand are now revelling in another win, this time against Arsenal at the Emirates, having seen off the Champions, Manchester United in their last "giant-killing" game.

Wigan began the game faster than Ashley Young goes down in the penalty area, and clearly caught Arsenal off-guard, with two goals inside the first eight minutes.

Former Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo opened the scoring, finishing an impressive counter-attack in which Arsenal's Mikel Arteta pulled up with an injury, and just a minute late, the lead was astonishingly doubled, thanks to a clever piece of skill from Victor Moses on the left, who then crossed it in for Jordi Gomez to bundle home.

The goals left Arsene Wenger raging on the touchline at his players, who had clearly not prepared for such a viscous, and purposeful attack from the relegation battlers.

Once Arsenal did finally awake from their slumber, a cross met the head of Thomas Vermaelen, who powered the ball into the back of the net which Wigan 'keeper Ali Al-Habsi had no chance in saving.

However, despite Arsenal pressure for the remainder of the first half, Al-Habsi was able to keep the home side at bay with a number of superb saves to keep the Latics leading.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, the second half was even less productive, and Wigan managed to resiliently hold out for the all important win, even having a few chances to extend their lead, and manager Roberto Martinez was understandably delighted.

"I'm so so satisfied because that wasn't an accident. In eight days, to have to play Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal is such a big task, but today the manner that we coped physically and tactically everyone at Wigan Athletic should be very proud."

"The manner that we played and obviously we were a little bit disappointed at half-time because we couldn't keep the ball well enough. I thought we had to defend well on the counter-attack we were a real threat but we can play a lot better than that."

"But in the second half, to have that mentality of know-how in such a young group, to understand what's needed in different phases. We got one-on-ones with the keeper, we had another chance and we coped with an outstanding footballing side and that is the truth."
The win for Wigan pulls them five points clear of the drop-zone in 16th place, and seemed to have picked up form at a crucial stage of their season, whilst Arsenal remain in third place, but failed to extend their lead on Tottenham and Newcastle, who are both five points away with a game in hand.

Wayne Rooney steps up, and it's in! Placed into the bottom left-hand corner of the net, and

Evra slides a cross in along the ground, Welbeck's there at the back post, and puts it away to make it 2-0

GIF: Young a "disgrace" and a "cheat"

Manchester United burst down the left at Old Trafford, and skipping around one player, Ashley Young adopted a very promising position inside the box against his former club. Seconds later, he was on the floor and a penalty was awarded (incidentally scored by Wayne Rooney).

Soon after, Twitter exploded with fury at the incident, with United's winger called all sorts of names - largely a "diver" and a "cheat." Newcastle's 27 year-old midfielder, Ryan Taylor took to the social networking site to call Young a disgrace and the "biggest cheat in the League":

“Ashley Young is an absolute DISGRACE. He's the biggest cheat in the league. His antics are a joke...."
There was contact on Young, but his theatrics are quite clearly over-exaggerated to ensure a penalty was awarded. The defender comes across Young, but is it enough to bring him down? What do you think? Dive or penalty?

Wilshere's Chances Diminishing

Hopes that Arsenal's young midfielder Jack Wilshere will play a part for either his club this season or England in the upcoming Euro 2012 competition are slowly diminishing in light of Arsene Wenger's recent, somewhat pessimistic view on the 20 year-old's injury and recovery process.

Wenger is quite rightly adamant that Wilshere must prove his fitness and show that he is once again physically able to cope with the strenuous demands of competitive football once again.

The player has been out of action for the whole footballing season recovering from numerous setbacks since a stress fracture in his ankle originally halted his career in pre season. The Arsenal manager said:

"We are now in mid April, the Euros start in the middle of June. Anyone who knows what is required at the top level, in terms of intensity, will realise time’s getting short now."

"I said last week, the next three weeks would be decisive and now we have two weeks in front of us.”
Evidently, time is unfortunately running out for the youngster, but an extensive recovery of this sort is not something which will be wanted to be rushed, especially with Arsenal's poor luck with injuries to their squad.

Impressive Arteta Crucial to Arsenal

Mikel Arteta's winning goal on Sunday against Manchester City caused an eruption of joy among Arsenal fans inside the Emirates Stadium.

His strike came in the dying moments of a hotly contested game in which Arsenal dominated and deserved the win, and according to Thomas Vermaelen, the acclaim for Arteta's goal was very much deserved, having been a crucial figure in the Arsenal team all season. Vermaelen said:

"He has been really important for us. He is not only important on the pitch but off the pitch as well. He talks a lot, he's an experienced player."

"He is really important in midfield because often you win and lose games in midfield."
The Spanish midfielder joined Arsenal in the summer from Everton where he spent seven seasons, gathering experience and developing his game from a more defensive midfielder to a more attack minded, creative player with the valuable ability of being able to pick out the killer pass and execute it accurately.

Arsenal have thus benefited from his incisiveness this season, especially as the campaign has progressed and the 30 year-old has settled in at the Emirates. He has clearly been very well received by his fellow team mates whom, thanks to Vermaelen's insight, regard him as a crucial component of the Arsenal team, and indeed the majority of fans too share this view.

Arteta replaces Arsenal's former number "8", Samir Nasri, who left the club to join Manchester City last summer, and who has since become incredibly unpopular among Arsenal supporters, betrayed by his lack of loyalty. However, having received over £20 million for Nasri and spent far less on Arteta, who has formed a pivotal role at the club, it seems the success story is all Arsenal's.

In the English Premier League game on Friday night we will have Swansea City hosting a very solid looking Newcastle United team who are playing some sublime football at the moment and they are flying high in the league and if they can conitnue their great run of form the might be in with an outside chance to get a Top 4 finish, although that is a long shot but their relistic target should be to finish in top 6 easily with the kind of season they had. That would give them European Football next season and they can build it from their.

Swansea City on the other hand had a great season as well and they have played 31 games in the league so far and they have 39 points on the table and that is pretty good from their standards and they are a very good team at home and Newcastle United will have to play some very awesome football to get all three points in this game.

De Gea's Roaring Redemption

The importance of winning the Premier League this season has escalated ferociously throughout the past few months for Manchester United. Disappointing cup performances which have seen them dumped out of all possible knock-out competitions have luckily not affected their League form, and the absence from competitions such as the FA Cup and Europa League seems to have done United a favour, currently holding the best form in the League, sitting at the very top of their rivals and deservedly so.

The United side have received its fair share of criticism this season, with many proclaiming a the very start of the season that the side would struggle to make the top four, and the persistent accusations throughout the season that the side simply isn't good enough, despite consistently impressive League displays.

There have been periods as always in which the side have suffered from a poor run of form, but just as they always seem to do, the United players have continued to do what they do best, and gain points persistently whilst others falter and drop them.

Having been behind City for much of the season, United are now five points clear and in fantastic form, and while it can be said that this is down to a collective team show of grit and determination, there is one man who has been a catalyst in the sides recent surge of success. He was at one point the centre of attention at Old Trafford, with the spotlight shining brightly on his oddly assembled chin of hair - or as some people bravely called it; a "beard" - and eyes burned into him with an explicit desire for him to fail.

I am of course talking of David de Gea, United's "dodgy Dave", "doughnut Dave" or just United's "summer flop." The beginning of his Manchester United career was not the greatest, and all at United acknowledged that he must improve - a process which was expected to take a small while as he settled in England and developed an understanding of and stability in the English game.

Dropped from the first team and still a worry when played, de Gea was something of a liability, even for his most ardent of supporters - of which there were many. He had been incredibly unlucky, but he had also made some avoidable mistakes for which he was heavily criticised as critics circled like vultures, waiting for his next mistake.

As some began to place the young Spaniard in the rather crowded category of Manchester United goalkeeping disasters, De Gea continued to work on the training ground and build up strength physically and mentally to meet the challenge of being the number one goalkeeper for one of the biggest clubs in the world. Thankfully for United, when he was thrown in at the deep end once again, their goalkeeper was not only able to stay afloat, but could also swim rather well too. He has in such a short space of time adapted to his surroundings and has turned into currently one of United's most consistent performers.

It is no coincidence that Manchester United have conceded the least goals out of any Premier League side in their past six games, with just two being fired past de Gea in the United goal, and that is despite United's goalkeepers having to save the most amount of shots out of all of the 'keepers in the top four.

The 21 year-old goalkeepers' form has been crucial to United's, with saves of the highest quality being showcased aplenty by a man previously lamented for being incompetent or simply unable to save the simplest of shots.

But proving his critics wrong will be far from his greatest achievement come the end of the season. Winning the Premier League will be ranked far higher for him and for Manchester United. Wayne Rooney recently said "it would definitely be one of the best titles we've ever won if we can do it," - and if United can "do it," de Gea can certainly claim a huge part of that fantastic success.

Yann M'Vila Hints at Arsenal Move

Yann M'Vila will not be a Rennes player come the start of next season, but what is not entirely clear is which club will be able to call him their own.

However, the French defensive midfielder who has been tracked by a number of top clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United, has dropped an interesting hint that the Emirates Stadium may be his destination this summer. The 21 year-old said:

"Inter, Arsenal, Real ... I will take the fun everywhere! These are great clubs. If the coach calls you and tells you he wants you to make you play, especially a French coach, it changes everything."
With a preference to play under a French coach, M'Vila seems to be suggesting that Arsene Wenger, well renowned for being someone who can, and quite often does get the best out of talented young players with promise, would be his favoured option to play under.

Wenger certainly admires the player, with interest paid to him last summer, but Rennes were unwilling to sell.

Circumstances have now changed, and with Rennes ready to sell, M'Vila is happy to talk about his options, continuing when asked about the suggestion that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho had personally spoken to him about a move: “Mourinho calling me? he does not even have my number. But play at Real? Yeah, it would be an absolute blast! It would be great to play with Kaka and [Karim] Benzema.”
