Arsenal's Pursuit of Samba Boosted

Arsenal have been given a boost in their pursuit of a central defender, as Chris Samba of Blackburn - a known target of Arsenal's, announced his desire to play Champions League football.

Despite being infuriated by the sacking of Sam Allardyce last season, he signed a new four and a half year contract early this year. However, Arsene Wenger's determination to sign a new defender will certainly have been helped by what Samba said after Blackburn's 1 - 0 defeat to Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the Barclays Asia Trophy:

"At the minute I am at Blackburn but we will have to see what happens. If you have a player who has no ambition to play at a higher level, then he made a mistake and chose the wrong sport. He should do something else."

"When you are a footballer – or if you play any high-profile sport – you should be ambitious. It is difficult at the moment but I am just waiting to see what happens and concentrating on my pre-season preparation."

"I don't know about Arsenal as I am not the one who is dealing with it. I'm just trying to get myself fit. Of course, I would like to play in the Champions League, which player does not dream of that? It would be a lie if I told you everything was good and that I didn't want to play in the Champions League. That would be a big lie. Every player wants to do that."
Blackburn's new owners have long term ambitions to steer the side to the Champions League, but this is surely too much of a wait for the 27 year-old defender. That is especially unlikely considering the strong competition from the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham for a place inside the top four as well as Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal who are usually certain of a top our finish.

Five seasons in the Premier League has given Samba ample experience in England, and is a strong and reliable defender - something Arsenal would certainly benefit from. Arsenal just need to make the move for him now, although Blackburn may be looking for a fee in excess of £10 million considering his contract and the fact that Blackburn have already let Phil Jones leave for Manchester United.

Nasri To Stay - Mata Deal Close

There finally seems to be some good news at Arsenal, or better news than what has been wheeled out in the last few weeks. Instead of more on Cesc Fabregas' endless transfer saga to Barcelona, we turn to Nasri, who has had his own saga this year, but has now has apparently told Arsenal that he will stay for at least one more year.

While this does mean that he will be a likely departure next summer, it also means Arsenal will be able to squeeze another year out of him, and considering his good form at the start of last season, this is a good thing for Arsenal, who are doing their best to keep hold of their best players.

It is understood that Nasri has turned down Arsenal's new contract offer of £115,000 per week and will run down his contract with a year remaining, due to strong interest from both Manchester City and Manchester United. According to reports, City are willing to pay Nasri £160,000 a week, and had offered Arsenal £20 million for his services - a bid that was rejected.

Meanwhile, the Star makes a very bold and extremely confident claim that "Juan Mata will sign for Arsenal in the next 24 hours." It is a sentence which will delight many Arsenal fans, who have seen the promising young Spaniard play for the Spain Under-21's and his club Valencia after putting in some superb performances.

Arsenal have been tracking Mata all summer, mainly because many thought that he would come in as a replacement for Nasri. However, due to strong interest from several other top clubs across Europe in Mata, Arsenal have had to move fast to dissuade him from joining anyone else.

The 23 year-old midfielder has a £17.5 million buy-out clause in his Valencia contract, but it is believed that he is available for £13.2 million considering his relative inexperience, and it is a fee Arsenal have met. Arsenal's local rivals, Tottenham were said to have attempted to hijack the deal, but Arsenal remain strong favourites.

Midfield Signing on The Cards For United

Either Sir Alex Ferguson was purposely trying to dissuade Manchester United fans from getting their hopes up for a new signing, or David Gill doesn't keep the United manager informed on transfer activity.

Just as United fans and pundits digested Ferguson's comments that the club were not looking at any new signings because their main targets were unavailable, David Gill comes up with some comments to give revived hope of a new midfield addition.

"We are looking at one more player to bring in," said Gill, as millions of United fans' ears listened with delight. Gill, the Chief Executive of the club, has always insisted that the manager has money to spend on players if he needs it, and it is this central midfield position now vacated by Paul Scholes that will require a substantial fee to fill.

Ferguson has expressed a specific interest in a few players in that position; namely, Arsenal's Samir Nasri and Inter Milans Wesley Sneijder, with the latter being the favourite among fans. Nasri will cost in excess of £20 million this summer, or absolutely nothing next summer, providing he doesn't sign a new contract with Arsenal, while Sneijder will be a £35 million purchase. It's a big fee, but Ferguson admires the Dutchman hugely, and sees him as the natural replacement for Scholes.

"Nothing is happening and nothing is imminent but we will see what happens when we get home. There will still be 31 days of the transfer window to see if anything develops.

"The important point to understand, and Alex has made clear, is that we need someone who is going to improve the quality of the squad."

Arsenal In New Jagielka Bid - Wenger Wants Respect

Arsenal's second bid for Phil Jagielka in as many summer transfer windows was once again rejected by Everton, but the Gunners will now apparently make a third bid, and raise the stakes in the hope of coming closer to the Merseyside clubs valuation of the England defender.

Many reports have suggested that Everton would be willing to listen to an offer if it was closer to £20 million, especially as David Moyes knows he must sell before he buys, and Arsene Wenger is now willing to up his £10 million offer for Jagielka.

Wenger has said that he will "certainly" purchase another defender in this window and is working very hard to do so, and his previous bid for the 28 year-old may have been simply a sign of his interest, as he surely could not have imagined a £10 million would be accepted.

According to the Express, the Everton manager would encourage the board to accept a £17 million bid for his star defender, but whether or not Arsenal would offer that much is debatable, especially considering the players age and Wenger's strict policy for younger players.

Wenger refuses as a matter of principle to discuss his targets, because he doesn't wish to sink as low as Barcelona have in attempting to purchase Cesc Fabregas through various comments and gestures.

However, he has also been angered by Manchester City's interest in Samir Nasri, with Roberto Mancini openly discussing his desire for the Frenchman to be a City player, or at the very least giving large hints to the media about it. The Arsenal manager has had enough, and demands some respect be shown to the transfer rules and that the rules be reviewed. When asked whether or not he believes City have broken any rules regarding Samir Nasri, Wenger said:

"I would like to return the question to you. What do you think? We live in a realistic world. I do not want to assess what I cannot prove."

"I know how things happen. It doesn't necessarily go through the player or the agent but I think it is a rule that has to be reviewed. It's not really respected."
He also commented on the players he has at the club, and who he is prepared to let go. Both Nicklas Bendtner and Emmanuel Eboue have been allowed to talk to other clubs about a move, but everyone else, Wenger continues to "fight" for them to stay:

"How many will leave the club? I said from the start I will fight to keep everybody. Nicklas Bendtner might go and Emmanuel Eboue might go. They can talk to clubs, but the rest I will fight."

SERGIO AGUERO AT THE CROSSROADS | REAL SAYS NO , MANCHESTER CITY THE OPTION

The leyendary Bluesman Robert Johnson told the World in his song "Crossroads"

I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees
I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees
Asked the Lord above, have mercy now, save poor Bob if you please
Standin' at the crossroads, tried to flag a ride
Whee-hee, I tried to flag a ride
Didn't nobody seem to know me, everybody pass me by

Leyend has it that Johnson met the Devil himself at the "Crossroads" & sold his soul in order to get his deepest desire, play the guitar like no one else & be the "greatest" bluesman of them all.

Spanish Football
Sergio Aguero

The SERGIO AGUERO situation could well use this soundtrack to describe how the current ATLETICO DE MADRID player is living his recent hours. The Argentine International is currently in his own personal "crossroads" & may well have to sell his soul , but not to the Devil ( his already at Atletico ) but to a Sheik.

Spanish online paper "el confidencial" publish today that apparently REAL MADRID has said NO to Sergio Aguero in his last attempt to get the Club to make an effort to buy his transfer from Atletico de Madrid. This leaves only one option: MANCHESTER CITY. The English Club is on the verge of transferring Carlos Tevez to Corinthians ( the players dislikes living in England, far from family etc) & City sees Aguero as the perfect substitute. They are the only Club to date that will offer the 45M€ contract clause release fee & have offered the player a staggering 9M€ per season salary. Local Spanish Football observers have in the last days changed their minds about this being a tactical
manoeuvre from Aguero, to the Man City option is about to become a reality. How did Aguero get here?

The Argentine played his cards badly, he showed all his aces without knowing what the other players had up their sleeves. The player has also been handled by some very bad representatives that played their own game with "over-confidence" & ended up flying around Europe selling their player to everyone that would listen. However, Sergio Aguero may have actually been "betrayed" by Real Madrid, which wished to buy him last January in the "Winter Market", promised him their devoted forever "love" thereafter , but in the end wished not to enter into a "Club-War" with its rival & city neighbour. Real Madrid has changed focus, strategy & "love" towards Brazilian Neymar for the same amount of money: 45M€.

Sergio Aguero has publicly said that he wishes to leave Atletico de Madrid & will not return to Atletico de Madrid, while waiting for the "promised" Real Madrid offer that did not arrive. If it is true what has been reported, that Aguero has made a last ditch attempt to sell himself to Real Madrid & the latter has told him NO way José, then the Argentine is truely lost in his own self made hole & personal crossroad:

1. he returns to Atletico de Madrid on Sunday ( as called up by the Club) & publicly asking for forgiveness & be humiliated, with fans spewing abuse for months

2. takes the Manchester City offer,  against his desires to stay in Madrid & play in Real Madrid
3. that Football shows us again how little we all know & Real Madrid comes back in the picture & makes the play in the last minute.

Today , at this moment , point 2 is the real option. Manchester City seems to have all the cards,  & as Robert Johnson sang,..."I went to the crossroads, fell down on my knees. Asked the Lord above, have mercy now, save poor Bob if you please" .

We will know the outcome soon to this Football story. If your a Manchester City fan, your Club is in the box seat,  & nearly everyone is calling it a "sure thing". If your a Real Madrid fan, it all looks dim, very dim & almost discarded if today's news is correct. Lastly, if your an Atletico fan, anything is possible, the Club is the "Devils Club" ( in a figurative & metaphorical sense).

Stay tuned!

Manchester United Target Paulo Henrique Ganso

Manchester United and AC Milan target, Paulo Henrique Ganso of Brazilian side Santos is a typical "Brazilian play-maker". We are constantly informed of the latest prodigy, often from South America, who will develop into the next global footballing superstar. Players have been and gone, labelled as the next best thing, and under the heavy weight of expectation, withered and faded into a footballing abyss.

Perhaps Ganso could be the player to break that mould, and make something of himself in English football, or at least in Europe. He certainly has the ability to be the player to replace Paul Scholes at Manchester United, and at the age of 21 has plenty of time to develop, however, with this quality, must be caution, especially when it comes to Manchester United and Brazilians.

The first Brazilian to join United was Kleberson. Remember him? He was labelled as "ideal" for the Premier League - a real talent, with the ability to play all over the midfield. Sir Alex Ferguson said he was "delighted" to have signed him after an impressive World Cup in 2002, for £6 million. 30 games, 2 goals and a torrid time in England later, Kleberson was sold for £2.5 million.

Manchester United will be hoping that if Ganso signs, which isn't entirely likely considering his dream is to join AC Milan, he will not suffer the same fate as Kleberson did, and to be honest, I shouldn't think he would, because this young man has the talent and the confidence to fulfil his potential.

He is good in possession, can find the killer pass, and has the ability to make that pass to create goals for the men around him. A good play-maker reads the game, finds the positions to make space for himself and his team-mates and finds them with varying and unpredictable passes, making it harder for the opposition to read the play. They also have the creative spark and the awareness to make runs to score a decent amount of goals for themselves.

Ganso, in the main has that, and that is probably why he has been heralded as the "next Kaka". That would of course suit AC Milan perfectly, who sold the "real" Kaka in 2009 to Real Madrid, but it would also suit Manchester United, who actually enquired about Kaka's services when he was a Milan player, with rumours of a £50 million bid being prepared at one point.

Ganso also comes with his weaknesses or ugly side believe it or not. He has had two major injury problems so far in his short career, which left him out of action for six months each. As a Brazilian, along with the cheeky skills of flicking balls over the opponents clueless head and countless mesmerising step-overs, he also has the knack of doing something that I would find hard to watch.

Regular readers will know that I, like most others, hate with a passion when a player falls over clutching their face, and writhes around on the floor in apparent agony when in fact they were simply brushed in a clearly fair challenge. Coupled with the super energetic finger that wags furious when a decision goes against him, and it is straight away a trait I would rebuke in the Premier League.

However, if his star quality outshines the latter mentioned possible problems, I would be pleased to see him grace Europe with his vision, passing and control. I would of course be delighted to see him bloom into the "new Kaka"  in European football so that one day we may find another similarly outstanding player and be able to label him the "new Ganso". United and AC Milan will have to pay at least £25 million for their man however, who has a contract until 2015 as well as a £44 million release clause.

REAL MADRID DEFEATS CHIVAS 0 - 3 IN FRIENDLY | CRISTIANO RONALDO HAT-TRICK

REAL MADRID played its second "friendly"  pre-season game as part of their self proclaimed "US Tour", & defeated 0 - 3 Mexican Club CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA. The game had one dominant player, CRISTIANO RONALDO, who scored a HAT TRICK. That is, in a space of 10 mins, the Portuguese player scored three goals.

Spanish Football
Cristiano Ronaldo 2011

The game was beamed into Spain in an awkward hour - 5.00am - which limited the viewers included myself who preferrred to score goals in bed. But seen the highlights, Ronaldo took this game - as every game he plays - as if it was his last, with a super competition attitude that shows his win-win - win spirit.

Young French defender VARANE showed his class & impressed in the first half, while Callejón again looked good, with Coentrao.

Good match to analyse how Real Madrid is evolving for Coach Mourinho, who should be relatively happy with how the new incorporations are evolving & performing.

David Beckham & Ashley Young In Agreement

Manchester United's legendary former right midfielder David Beckham and the clubs new £16 million signing Ashley Young are in agreement; the team at Old Trafford are the best team in Manchester, with the greatest history.

David Beckham, currently at LA Galaxy, spoke about his old clubs rivals and how they have been growing over the past few years into a team who will begin to challenge United. Of course, he acknowledged the progress they have made, and said that although they may be a threat next season and in years to come, they will never "be" Manchester United.

The 26 year-old had many happy years at United, winning six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy and two FA Cups in 399 appearances. He never wanted to leave the club that had supported him through the good times and bad times in his career, and who brought him so much success, and he clearly still hold the club dear to his heart. He said of City:

"They're bringing good players in, they've got strong people with a lot of money behind them, so they're going to improve."

"But they'll never be Manchester United. They might be a threat this season but United have got the history, the silverware over the last 20 years. There's only one team in Manchester but City I'm sure will be a team to look at going forward."
Likewise, United's new signing Ashley Young is equally enthusiastic about the club, and claims it was a "no-brainer" when he heard of their interest in him. He was not in a position to turn down one of the biggest clubs in the world, and the former Aston Villa winger is now looking forward to adding to United's marvellous history:

"There was never any doubt once I knew United were interested. When one of the biggest clubs in the world comes after you, whether to sign for them or not is a no-brainer. I was delighted to hear about their interest. I just wanted to get my signature on the paper."

"I have confidence in my own ability. I always said I wanted to play at the highest level. Manchester United is that. This move gives me the opportunity to play in the Champions League and go for a 20th title. That just says it all."

"The history of the club is fantastic and I am delighted to be part of it."

Wenger Needs A Big Signing

As Arsenal struggle to keep hold of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, the club also faces losing out on potential transfer targets, with the latest £10 million bid for Everton's Phil Jagielka being turned down and the young Costa Rican striker, Joel Campbell putting a move to Arsenal on hold.

Gael Clichy has already left the Arsenal door, and slammed it in Wenger's face on the way out by claiming he left so he would have more chance of winning a trophy with Manchester City. It may be considered as a low blow. It may also be considered as the truth; Arsenal's title winning chances have been fading for a while.

In the past six years, the club has no silverware to it's name and has instead come only excruciatingly close. That isn't what players want. Nowadays, football players, especially in their mid twenties, or approaching that age who are ambitious and know that time may not be all on their side, need immediate success. They need to be winning games and winning trophies, as a footballing career, on average, is not very long.

The likes of Manchester United and Manchester City are spending big this summer, and they are able to attract the best players through a few reasons in which Arsenal simply cannot or will not compete in.

First of all, a bigger wage is always more attractive to a footballer. As Arsenal offer Nasri a £115,000 per week deal which would make him their highest earner, Manchester City have offered the same player £45,000 more, and he still wouldn't be close to City's highest weekly wage packet.

However, money is only one small feature of the attraction at clubs like United, City and Chelsea who are willing to pay large sums that Arsenal are not. The main attraction is surely the potential to win trophies and the top class players already at the club who can help achieve that. Arsenal currently face letting their best players go - what message does that send to players subject of interest from Arsenal?

Arsene Wenger must change that view. He must move in the transfer window to bring in a player who can not only help to win trophies at Arsenal, and make the team all around more clinical, but who also has the star attraction for other footballer.

Manchester United have Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Ferdinand, Vidic - all players who are known throughout the world, who many younger players look up to and aspire to be like on the pitch. Even City have their fair share through Yaya Toure and David Silva, and apart from the anomaly Carlos Tevez, who wants to move to a new club every two seasons, the players want to stay as they have a good chance of success.

I believe one big signing for Arsenal could do wonders for the morale of both the team and the fans. It would take pressure off of Wenger, and allow him to continue his job without calls for him to spend a lot of money. If Wenger can get the trouble positions sorted, a big signing of a big player, world renowned would certainly refresh Arsenal's world wide popularity, and perhaps they can look forward to bringing more of the same in, rather than see them leave looking for success.

Arsenal Offer Nasri New £115k-a-week Deal

Arsenal are to do what Arsene Wenger has promised, and fight as hard as possible to keep the best players at the club, by offering Samir Nasri a new deal worth £6 million per year, according to the Star.

24 year-old Nasri, who has refused to sign several previous contract offers made by Arsenal, has been the subject of interest from both Manchester United and Manchester City. Apparently, City offered Nasri an £160,000 per week deal, double what Arsenal were thought to have originally offered Nasri back when this whole contract saga began.

The Arsenal board are now prepared to meet with Nasri's representatives according to the paper, to negotiate further with a £115,000 per week deal said to be Arsenal's new, improved offer. Arsenal are determined to keep Nasri at the club amid a stronger interest from Manchester City, who are said to have offered in excess of £20 million for the Arsenal midfielder.

They will also be hoping to avoid letting him go for free next season when his contract expires, especially now that Barcelona have confirmed they are in talks to sign Cesc Fabregas. Wenger will apparently tell Nasri that he will be made Arsenal's main central midfielder to mould the side around next season if Fabregas goes, in the hope that this will convince him to stay.

Robin van Persie is also set  to be offered a new contract - an improved one from his current £70,000 a week, even though he has a contract that runs until 2014.

Rooney Would Welcome Sneijder Signing

When Wayne Rooney signed a new five year contract back in October of 2010, he said he was "delighted" to be staying at the club where he belongs. He was probably also rather pleased with the amount of money he would be taking home each week, as he had been then made Manchester United's top earner with a reported wage of something above £200,000 per week.

Manchester United have been linked to a player reportedly demanding more than Rooney's mammoth wages in Wesley Sneijder, and it had been said in numerous speculative reports that Rooney was uncomfortable with a player earning more than him. That to me sounds extremely egotistical and selfish of the English striker, and it is something I wouldn't really expect from him, so I was pleased to hear that Rooney would in fact welcome Sneijder to United, no matter what his wages would be.
A source close to Rooney said:

"It's nonsense to suggest Wayne would ever stop Manchester United signing a player like Wesley Sneijder because he wants to stay the top-paid player at Old Trafford; its absolutely not true. In fact, it's just the reverse. He’s happy to see United sign any world-class player to improve the club's chances of success."

"What other players earn when they join United is of no concern to Wayne. He is happy with his own situation at the club. Wayne is committed to seeing Manchester United improve at every level, which is why he signed on for five more years last season."
Indeed, despite the questionable demands from Sneijder about his wages, it should be of no concern to any other players what they earn per week. For a player to be against a club signing another player because they would exceed their own wages is quite frankly ridiculous to me, especially when we are talking about the already massive sums of money they are being paid.

While Rooney may support the Sneijder signing, Sir Alex Ferguson's latest comments to "forget" United signing Sneijder seems to rule out the signing, unfortunately for the majority of Manchester United fans, who find Sneijder as the perfect replacement for Paul Scholes.

THE FUTURE OF SERGIO AGUERO | THIS COULD BE THE DECISIVE WEEK

SPANISH FOOTBALL promises to be interesting & agitated this week as the elimination of Brazil (Neymar) & Argentina (Aguero) will speed up transfer & signing proceedings, or at least clear up the future of some players & where they will play next season. While the case of Brazilian International looks pretty much clear, the future of Argentine & ATLETICO DE MADRID forward SERGIO AGUERO now enters the "critical stage". According to the players representive ( one of them at least ) Hernán Reguera who commented to paper "Ole" , Aguero will resolve his future this week with his future Club. But which Club?

Spanish Football
Sergio Aguero

The Club that SERGIO AGUERO wishes is to play for is REAL MADRID, but the latter has not made a formal move or offer as yet, at least publicly. Media observers add that Real Madrid has "tested" Atletico but the latter has solicited Real Madrid to avoid asking, offering or buying to avoid "breaking" inter-Club relations & cause a "riot" from the Atletico fans. Thus as far as we all know, Real Madrid does not wish to put Atletico Directives in any problems, keep their good relations flowing & have not made the 45M€ contract release clause offer. This in itself has perplexed Sergio Aguero as he believed that Real Madrid would take "care of things" after he made the move of announcing that he wished to leave his Club. In fact, Aguero is "affected" by the Real Madrid decision to go after Brazilian Neymar.

The only Club to date that has offered the asking price of 45M€ is apparently MANCHESTER CITY &, today in Spanish Sports Football paper "AS", it looked serious & a real possibility. So serious that the paper titles ..."Aguero will go to City this week"! The paper argues that Aguero hasn´t any other choice,as Atletico refuses to deal with Real Madrid & City is the only Club will to fork out the impressive 45M €uros.

Said all this, it costs me to really believe this story. Atletico may agree with City a transfer fee but the player will have the final say, & Aguero does not wish to move from Spain, at least those are his words. I feel the player will use the Manchester City option as a manoeuvring lever to pressure Real Madrid into action & that the latter may come into the public light this week. This is my guess of course, a hypothetical guess, as I also do not count out FC Barcelona if the Sanchez - Cesc Fabregas negotiations complicate  themselves further. This last option is not in the betting sweep stakes, but ...

I have a feeling that the Sergio Aguero case will drag on further than we all think & that the battle will be bitter & bloody as the player will use all sorts of "tricks" to get to where he wishes. I do not at all discard a "dark shadow & sinister hand" pulling the strings from Real Madrid as they attempt to keep the good guys profile in the face of the public.

They say this is the decisive week - heard that one before - lets see if this is the case.

Aly Cissokho "On Verge" of Transfer

Aly Cissokho, Lyon's 23 year-old left-back, is edging closer to leaving Ligue 1 and moving to England with Liverpool, according to reports.

Liverpool had been in the running for Arsenal's Gael Clichy, but having missed out to Manchester City, they have continued to look for a left back, which has proved a problem position since the disaster signing of Paul Konchesky. Fabio Aurelio is a talented player, but is very often a sufferer of injuries, and the £8.7 million capture of the promising Cissokho would certainly strengthen the defence.

Arsenal have been linked to Cissokho in the past, and possibly may still be interested in a left back considering the departure of their first choice, Clichy, however, it seems Arsenal have in fact set their sights on a move for Newcastle's Spaniard, Jose Enrique.

Cissokho has made a total of 75 appearances for Lyon over a period of two seasons, and scored 2 goals, while earning one appearance for his country. His contract at the French side runs out in 2014 having signed a five year contract in 2009 after joining from FC Porto.

Lyon are prepared to sell their left back, and have a replacement lined up it seems, as they have taken a keen interest in Benoit Tremoulinas of Bordeaux.

£20m Will Buy Juan Mata For Arsenal or United

While Valencia's club President Manuel Llorente has insisted that his young left midfield star, Juan Mata is not for sale, reports continue to link him away from Spain and interestingly, with the two English sides Arsenal and Manchester United. The Mail now reports that both clubs have registered a real interest in Mata, and that if Valencia were to received a £20 million bid for the 23 year-old, it would be enough to persuade Valencia to let him go.

A move for Mata from either Manchester United or Arsenal will depend on what happens with the current transfer sagas surrounding the two clubs. That is, if Manchester United do end up signing Wesley Sneijder in the ongoing, rather confusing negotiations which according to some, are taking place, and according to others are not.

Indeed in Arsenal's case, a move for Mata much depends on whether or not they can keep hold Samir Nasri and/or Cesc Fabregas this summer. Nasri looks set to stay at Arsenal and run down his contract to go for free next summer, but Barcelona are continuing to circle over Cesc Fabregas and look as likely as ever to snap him up for a lucrative transfer fee.

Theo Walcott's recent admission that he would like to be given the chance to play centrally as a goal scoring striker, it could leave room on the wing for another player to step in. Mata could easily be that player - a winger with bags of pace and the superb ability to beat a man, combined with great technical ability, providing that creative spark needed.

Mata has made 172 appearances for Valencia, scoring 46 goals, and has a contract with the Spanish side until 2015. However, Valencia's money struggles have been well documented, resulting in the past in the sale of David Villa and David Silva to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively, so £20 million will do well to add further stability to the clubs finances.

If Manchester United do decide to go in for the player, they have a special advantage over other clubs in the fact that Ryan Giggs is still at the club. The United legend is an idol of Mata's, and the chance to be mentored by his idol would certainly be a huge attraction.

Legal Action And A Powerful Ant

So the news is back! Sorry for the delays with some of my recent articles, but Wordpress has been acting up. The transfer window is very much alive, unfortunately.

  • Juventus continue to pursue a striker in La Liga, but it’s no longer Sergio Aguero, instead Villarreal’s Giuseppe Rossi might be on his way to Turin. His agent confirmed that Juventus and Villarreal are discussing a possible transfer, and reports claim that the Bianconeri have made a 25 million bid. Although the Spanish side want 5 million more.

  • Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has insisted that Marek Hamisk can leave if a bid of 100 million is made. I swear he had a straight face on while talking to Corriere dello Sport: “Unless an indecent proposal of €100 million arrives, Hamsik will stay where he is”.

  • Fiorentina’s Riccardo Montolivo has rejected a contract renewal according to Andrea Della Valle. The Honorary President has admitted: “He evidently doesn’t want to stay here. Now he needs to tell us, and quickly, where he wants to go and play.” The Italian Internationale’s contract expires in 2012.

  • Liverpool’s Raul Merireles has quashed rumours linking him with a move to Serie A, with Inter and Juventus the two clubs mentioned. When asked would he be at Anfield next season he responded: “Of course”.

  • Back to Juventus, and Corinthians President Andres Sanchez claims they made a 52 million bid for Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez. After his own club made a 35 million offer for the Argentinian ace. The striker seems set to move back to South America after he announced he was leaving City for personal reasons.

Giovinco Is Happy The Way Things Have Gone

Sebastian Giovinco claims he has no regrets about staying at Parma instead of going back to Juventus, although he didn’t keep it at that. Also accusing Italians of being xenophiles.

“I am happy with the way things have gone. Juventus? They were the ones that sent me away. If I was to come back they would have to convince me. Parma have allowed me to break into the international setup”.

La Formica Atomica better be careful...

La Formica Atomica better be careful...

Italian magazine that interviewed him, Calcio 2000, persisted to ask strange questions: ‘Would my career have been easier if I was called Giovinho, prob yes’. The ‘Atomic Ant’ better be careful because Parma are not going anywhere fast (no offense), and bigger clubs could right him off based on his attitude.

2006 Scudetto Legal Action

Current Juventus President Andrea Agnelli has threatened to take legal action if the FIGC do not revoke the 2006 Scudetto from Internaztionale Milano. The FIGC will convene on Monday to make a decision, although it looks unlikely that the Scudetto will be removed, as it looks as though they are not legally permitted. Agnelli pressed his view by saying:

“It’s not time for bureaucracy, it’s time for essence. The dialogue will be restored only when these conditions will be guaranteed. People’s respectability isn’t at stake, especially the honourableness of those who cannot argue. We’re playing for the credibility of the system.”

Since the Calciopoli II trial in Naples evidence has emerged that Inter were also involved in match-fixing. A executive committee have spent the last month examining the evidence. Many Juventus fans have  been up in arms, as it looks as though Inter will not be punished. As Calciopoli continues to show it’s ugly head.

Manchester United to Offer Nani for Sneijder

According to reports, Luis Nani could be used by Manchester United as bait to persuade Inter Milan to let Wesley Sneijder leave Italy and join United. The Daily Express claims that due to Nani's maintained frustration of being left out of the Manchester United Champions League final starting line-up, the 24 year-old winger would be willing to move on.

Manchester United have apparently offered Inter a massive fee of £35 million for Sneijder, as well as offering an astonishingly generous £200,000 weekly wage to the player, but it seems Inter's stubbornness is shining through, with them extremely unwilling to let their star player go. United will now use a trump card, according to the paper, in offering Luis Nani in part exchange for Sneijder.

Ashley Young's signing has, for some, cast doubt over Nani's future at Manchester United, once again adding to the strength of the argument that Nani may be looking to move on. However, while United could allow Nani to leave, along with his reported £50,000 a week wages to make way for Sneijder's astronomical wage demands, there are several reasons why this deal seems unlikely.

Firstly, I cannot see Manchester United actively looking to let go of their most influential player last season. Not only did he assist 18 of United's goals last season, but he also recorded his best tally of goals in a season in his whole career with 10. The figures show very clearly that Nani is improving massively into a very talented, dangerous and integral part of a successful Manchester United team. Why on earth would Sir Alex Ferguson want to let him go?

There is also the fact that Manchester United typically seek strength in depth - in fact, it is United's large squad depth that has made them such a successful side over the years. The addition of Ashley Young to the other United wingers in Valencia, Giggs, Park and possibly Danny Welbeck only adds to the competitiveness on the United wings, and it is a fight Nani has expressed he is very much up for.

Finally, while I can understand Nani's frustration at being left out of the Champions League final starting eleven, I cannot see that as a reason to leave such a massive club at such an important stage in it's constant developing process. Nani made close to 50 appearances last season - which showcases clearly his worth to the team and more often than not, has made himself a certain starter - why would he look to leave when he is in such a strong, privileged position at a club like United?

Yes, adding Nani to the Sneijder deal would certainly make it an easier deal for Inter to agree to, but it would be a far better deal for Inter than United. Sir Alex Ferguson doesn't want to let Nani go - he has said so himself in the past - nor does he need to let Nani go. I believe Manchester Untied can persuade Inter to let Sneijder go with a cash only offer, with the £35 million United bid currently being seriously considered. There is really no need to let go Nani now is there?

SERGIO AGUERO | SPANISH FOOTBALL ´S SHAKESPEARIAN TRAGEDY

spain football
SPANISH FOOTBALL has its own Shakespearian play underway with two stories full of drama, changing destiny, backstabbing, betrayal, rumour, lies & human suffering. One is Cesc Fabregas & his endevour to leave Arsenal & get to FC Barcelona, the other which is todays post,  SERGIO AGUERO & his desire to leave ATLETICO DE MADRID for rival REAL MADRID.

One day someone may decide to write a play about this true story,  & may even put it in the London "Westend" or the Madrid "Gran Via" to dramatize the tragedy of a Football player.

Spanish Football
Sergio Aguero

It all began with the ambitious desires of a very talented & young Football player making a name for himself in a Spanish Football Club that wasn´t making the grade. There were moments of glory - the Europa League & Euro SuperCup - but the real aim & the place of potential champions is the European Champions League where "Golden Ball Players" are made & breed. This burning ambition & a family relative who is considered one of the greatest players in Football History (Maradona - father in law), pushes the player called SERGIO AGUERO to find his place on the Football Olympus.

His Club Atletico de Madrid open the door of his future by lowering his contract release clause from 65+M€ to 45M€ & a "verbal agreement" to listen to future offers if the money is right. Aguero begins to plan his future & begins talks with other potential Clubs, one being Real Madrid which made a formal offer in January 2011 which Atletico de Madrid refused.

Here the first part of the tragedy, Atletico will sell to any Club except Real Madrid. As the Spanish League season continues Aguero puts in a "blinding" second half to save Atletico from a season disaster & put the Club in Euro places. Meanwhile his three player representatives, all of which are fighting between themselves & have diverse vested interests, are working hard to find a new "home" for Aguero,  a place that competes in the Champions League regularly & can offer a steady World Stage to allow the 23 year old to explode onward to Football stardom.

Argentine International, two time FIFA Golden Ball winner, FC Barcelona star & personal friend LIONEL MESSI transmits to Aguero that Barcelona are interested in his services. Real Madrid find out & quickly move to work so that this does not happen. Suddenly, Aguero & his future have a chance, a golden opportunity , with the two biggest Clubs in the World calling & fighting it out for you.

Advised by his representatives, his World Football God father-in-law, the comments of & from diverse inside influential "personalities" at Barça & Real Madrid & with Atletico in turmoil with in house power-battles, Sergio Aguero takes a "calculated" decision & makes his very brave & risky move. Before leaving for Argentina for the "Copa America" he attempts to meet Atletico de Madrid owner Gil Marin & President Cerezo to advise & announce that he has offers & that he wishes to leave. Not being able to see both Club Directives & under pressure from his "people" before leaving to fly off to Argentina, the player unilaterally announces that he is leaving the Club & will not be playing next season at Atletico , thus the Club should respect his wishes.

A brave move as we still don´t know if Aguero had a firm (written - pre-contract) commitment from Barça or Real Madrid. In fact, as the events would show Barcelona found the 45M€ release clause too high & the petition of Atletico for their young star Thiago, Keita & Soriano was totally out of order. Barça changed strategy & focused on ALEXIS SANCHEZ of Italian Club Udinese. Real Madrid bulked inward at the aggressive reaction of Atletico de Madrid & the possibility of a mini "revolution" & inter-Club war & looked elsewhere in Brazil at NEYMAR

Suddenly, Sergio Aguero has found himself in no man´s land, his ships burnt with no way back home, with the life boats  Barça & Real Madrid disappearing from the horizon as puffs of smoke. A true tragedy & a real series of broken promises & betrayals that has left the player to the dogs. Bad calculation from Aguero? Without any doubt. Bad advise from his representatives? Totally. Naive? Yes. Inexperienced? Yes.

To fix this terrible situation, Aguero has had his team travelling Europe to find Clubs willing to put up 45M€ & thus be able to use that Club as a pressuring lever at Atletico to relax their demands & their violent fears,  & attempt to reignite the Real Madrid interest & stimulate their desires.

Italian Club Juventus showed real interest,  but would not go as high as 45M€  & Aguero did not wish to go to a Club not even in Europe next season. While from England Manchester City is willing to pay 45M€ to substitute Carlos Tevez ( almost certain departure) but Aguero does wish to leave Spain as his desire is Real Madrid. In conclusion a very delicate situation with a self made hole the size of the "Santiago Bernabeu" staduim.

Last news is that Sergio Aguero has bravely said yesterday that he is not going back to Atletico de Madrid, that he has already pronounced himself & that his people are working to find him a new "home". The only new "home" Aguero wants is Real Madrid, & if Real Madrid does not wish to break relations with Atletico de Madrid & have Neymar as their "star signing" objective, difficult solution I see here:

1. The Neymar operation fails - very doubtful its practically shut.

2. Real Madrid decides to sign Aguero against Atletico´s wishes & puts up 45M€
3. That Aguero ends up in a Club not of his desire out of pride & lack of options
