United Close on Kagawa - Modric Next?

Having lost out to Chelsea in the long, frustrating race to sign Lille's promising attacker Eden Hazard, Manchester United have turned their focus to Borussia Dortmund's attacking midfielder Shinji Kagawa.

Kagawa has been linked to United for a few months, with Sir Alex Ferguson travelling to Berlin to watch the Japanese international in action against Bayern Munich in the German Cup Final in which Kagawa scored in the Dortmund win several weeks ago.

Now reports claim that a deal is close to being completed for the 23 year-old midfielder, with only a few details to be finalised in order for the deal to go through according to Dortmund's director of sport, Michael Zorc who was also keen to highlight that Kagawa has a contract with Dortmund running until 2013.

With details having been completed between United and Kagawa's agent, Thomas Kroth, some reports claim that Kagawa will soon sign a five year contract worth £100,000 per week, with a fee somewhere in the region of £15 million to be paid to Dortmund, who spent just under £300,000 on the player two seasons ago.

Furthermore, Manchester United's interest in Tottenham's Croatian play maker Luka Modric has resurfaced in the speculation columns, with Kagawa's potential signing still not a solution for the often troubling situation United have in the centre of midfield which saw them forced to happily accept the retired Paul Scholes back into the squad last season.

Tottenham have failed to reach the Champions League despite finishing in a qualification spot due to Chelsea's European Cup win and therefore automatic entry to next years competition, and this will only fuel the suggestions that Luka Modric will want out of White Hart Lane. Having been chased by Chelsea and United last summer, we may see this race reignited.

"My adventure with Arsenal is over"

Arsenal will bid farewell to the 27 year-old goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski this summer, with the Pole telling reporters in Poland that he hopes his career at Arsenal is coming to an end, with people working on his behalf to manoeuvre a departure.

Fabianski has been playing infrequently due to the establishment of Wojciech Szczesny as Arsenal's number one in goal, and has therefore been restricted to only six appearances during the 2011/12 season - none of which have come in the League. He said:

"I hope that my adventure with Arsenal is over. I told the boss my opinion, what are my goals, etc. He spoke too. At this moment I want to focus on Euro 2012, but the right people are already working on my departure."
The Arsenal number 2 joined the club in 2007 from Polish club Legia Warszawa, but has never been able to pin his name regularly on the team-sheet, having made various mistakes throughout his Arsenal career.

In five seasons playing for the North London club, Fabianski has played 62 games, keeping 18 clean sheets and conceding 67 goals.

A new start for a goalkeeper with a reputation in England for either injuries or unreliability would be a good career move, as he certainly will not be getting game time with Arsenal as long as the strong, reliable Szczesny remains fit.

Manchester United Solve Midfield Problem

Manchester United have once again solved the problematic prospect of not having Paul Scholes in the midfield, by getting Paul Scholes to stay in midfield.

The 37 year-old midfielder announced his retirement from playing duties at the end of last season on the 31st May 2011, to begin a coaching career with United.

However, he reversed that decision in January after admitting to Sir Alex Ferguson that he had made a mistake, and slotted right back into the United midfield for 20 games of United's 2011/12 season.

Despite turning 38 in November, Scholes will play on for yet another season with the club where he has now amassed an astonishing 696 appearances. Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the news:

"It's been done. I’ve spoken to him and he’s staying. I’m delighted. He knew he’d made a mistake. He now realises that if he plays 25 or 30 games next season, they’ll be of real quality. We know our player very well. We’ve had him since he was a kid and we know how to use him.”
His passing is still as precise as ever, his composure on the ball still as ice cool, and his vision very much remains a key asset to both him and the Manchester United midfield.

His presence will retain the creativity and reliability which United have come to know and enjoy and to a certain extent rely on, and although he is likely to play a smaller role in the United first team next season with a midfield signing highly likely, Paul Scholes will remain a huge and influential presence yet again.

M'Vila to Arsenal - "Not True" says Wenger

Reports that Arsenal are "seriously considering" a club record deal for Rennes' French midfielder Yann M'Vila are premature and untrue according to Arsenal's manager, Arsene Wenger.

Rumours have been growing that not only had Arsenal made signing the highly rated 21 year-old defensive-midfielder a priority, but that the player had told friends that he wants a move to Wenger's side even if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

However, Wenger has countered this speculation by insisting that no such interest exists, no contact has been made and no player is close to signing for Arsenal at the present moment. He said:

''It is not true. There is not any interest at the moment."

"We have not been in touch with anybody, we have not made any offer to anybody and we are nowhere near to buying anybody at the moment. We are focused on our final game of the season."
That final game of the season is away to West Brom, and a win must be achieved to secure third position in the League and therefore a Champions League spot next season.

Both Tottenham and Newcastle are close behind fighting for a third place finish, all well aware that because of Chelsea's chances of winning the Champions League trophy and therefore automatic qualification for next season, fourth place may not guarantee European football.

Liverpool 0-1 Fulham Highlights Goals Video 1 May 2012

In the English Premier LEague league last month of the season we will have Liverpool hosting FUlham in the league game and although this is almost a dead rubber game but Liverpool will be looking to carry good form in the FA Cup final by winning all three points in the match.

They have 3 more games to play for in the next couple of weeks and none of them is more important than the won on 5th May against Chelsea in the Fa Cup final and Liverpool will be looking to get their hands on the FA Cup win and make it two trophies in the season and than build from there in next season.

Liverpool have only won 5 home games this season and that is somthing they will have to work on next season, Fulham on tuesday night might exploit that and if we look at the past 5 meetings between the two sides we can see there is not much between the two sides as both of them have won couple of games in the last 5 matches and drawn one that makes it a good game tonight.

Disrespecting Hodgson a Big Mistake

People love complaining. Everyone is brilliant at it, and as a result, we put our exemplary and well practised skills of grumbling about one thing or another to good use rather frequently. When it comes to football and more specifically the England managers job, football fans and pundits are so very quick to announce their position on the situation, and more often than not do their best to shine a dim light and a pessimistic opinion on proceedings.

As Roy Hodgson was appointed as the man to lead England into the Euro 2012 competition yesterday, football enthusiasts across England began preparing their critique of the new man, comparing him and his managerial quality to their preferred choice, questioning his capability to manage big players and scrutinizing his past achievements.

It would be fair to say that the overriding opinion is one of underwhelmed disappointment. For months the hype has been around just one man; the media's favourite casual-car-window interviewee, FA Cup winning cockney with a big, friendly, likeable personality. Harry Redknapp would have been appointed immediately if it was down to a democratic vote of the people, who had by the most part been indoctrinated by the media's infatuation with the Spurs manager.

Now we have Roy Hodgson in charge, a man portrayed far less colourfully by the press, with the dismal and forgettable spell as Liverpool boss still fresh in everyone's minds. Forgotten are the impressive achievements with previous nations as an international manager, forgotten is the 22 years of invaluable European managerial experience, and forgotten is the marvellous job done whilst at Fulham with very limited resources.

Instead, we see someone who cut a very lonely, unpopular and almost insignificant figure for six months at Liverpool, whose fans were against him from the very beginning of his reign.

Of course, results were dire and not what is expected of a club of Liverpool's size, but take into consideration the instability that was occurring at the time, and the abysmal state of Liverpool's League form now under Kenny Dalglish, despite having spent millions on supposedly world class players, and you have Roy Hodgson still with a huge amount of credibility as a football manager.

Unfortunately, the six month spell at Liverpool has tainted an otherwise thriving career, having been awarded the LMA Manager of the Year Award in 2010 by a record margin in a season in which he reached the Europa League Final with Fulham and previously leading them to their highest ever League finish of seventh.

Clearly, this is a man who knows what he is doing. The FA has appointed someone capable of managing at an international level well - his time at Switzerland proved that emphatically - and someone who has proven himself worthy of the England job in his 22 years as a manager. Fulham fans revered him and even jokingly called for their manager to be appointed as Prime Minister he was so reliable.

The England job is his chance to establish himself once again as a managerial force to be reckoned with, and rather than criticize his appointment before he has even begun the job he will be paid to do, judge him on the performances and results of the England team. This is a man who is proud to be the manager of England and is passionate about the Nation, so the serial complainers should be proud to have someone of such calibre so ready and willing to take up the poison chalice and attempt to bring glory or pride (or both) back into English football again.
